Grave of the fireflies : anime movie
Silent voice : anime movie
If you want something realistic and calm go for violet
The Apothecary Diaries - excellent period drama mystery with a very cool female lead and some slow burn romance
May I Ask For One Final Thing? - This isn't profound or deep but it is very cathartic to watch a badass lady punch the headlights out of bad guys.
Tsuki ga Kirei, Sweetness and Lightning, Maquia, Bisque Doll, Kaguya-sama, Shikimori-san, K-On, Akebi-san,
Magical girl stories: Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Doremi,
Iyashikei: Amanchu, Flying Witch
Gacha/Idol: Idolmaster (start with 2011 anime), Uma Musume (start with Cinderella Gray),
Weirdly sports that have good stories about relationships: Chihayafuru
Manga: Young Bride Stories, Tsurezure Children, Maiko-sanchi no Makanai-san, Kiniro Mosaic,
These are all sweet in different ways. Not necessarily like your recommendations, but in the right moments, they are incredibly sweet.
Kowloon Generic Romance
Clannad
A few others maybe worth considering:
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity
Your Lie in April
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunnygirl Sempai (not as the title seems)
Horimya
And I hope things get better for you(;こ ;)
[3-gatsu no Lion](https://anilist.co/anime/21366/3gatsu-no-Lion/) : Fairly short, deals with purpose in life, depression, loneliness. It's hopeful but calm and introspective, with bits of humour here and there that can be hit or miss. The emotional moments can hit hard though.
[Bakemonogatari](https://anilist.co/anime/5081/Bakemonogatari/) : Long running series, though I will only recommend this very first season. It's great on its own, and you can take it from there. It has a very morally corrupt main character at times (he's not evil, but does reprehensible stuff), but it deals with a lot f stuff that might hit close to home. It's spoiler-y so I won't delve into it, but be warned. It's got nice banter, creative ways to hide lack of funds and time. Very dialogue heavy but it's still engaging. The concept is basically : the characters' personnal issues coming to life in the form of supernatural creatures. It's a simple but effective ways to explore very real issues and situations but it doesn't diminish the gravity of these situations either.
[Clannad](https://anilist.co/anime/2167/CLANNAD/) and its sequel, Clannad After Story. It's a bit of a commitment but the pay off is incredible, if you manage to get into the story. It starts off as a silly rom com exploring various girls' back story and why they all lowkey fall in love with a delinquent main character, but the story eventually focuses back on the main heroine. The second season is where the real thing starts. It's not as lighthearted as the first one, but it fully explores the themes introduced through the first season and fleshes out the main characters until an iconic climax. Some people hate the ending, some people like it. Also deals with domestic violence, so please beware.
[Hyouka](https://anilist.co/anime/12189/Hyouka/) : Cute and lowkey mystery anime. Although everything is grounded in a very mundane and realistic high school student life. The characters regularly reference Agatha Christy so if you dig her style, maybe you'll like the mysteries in this one. I personnaly like how grounded everything is and how the mysteries are a means to flesh out the characters and their relationship. It's got a romance subplot that is very sweet but not fully explored unfortunately.
[KareKano](https://anilist.co/anime/145/Kareshi-Kanojo-no-Jijou/) : old but gold, one of the most credible romances i've seen in anime. It's fun and silly but it doesn't shy away from the less glamourous sides of being in a couple. The ending is infamously terrible because of production issues and conflict between the anime director and the mangaka, but it's still a very satisfying watch.
[Kimi no suizou wo tabetai](https://anilist.co/anime/99750/Kimi-no-Suizou-wo-Tabetai/), or I want to eat your pancreas. It's a simple boy meets girl love story movie, with a very obvious tragic set up : the girl is terminally ill and has little time left. I didn't prevent me from bawling my eyes out. You need to get invested in the characters though, obviously, otherwise it feels just too "forced". But if you let yourself get carried by the tragic poetry of loving despite knowing how it ends, making the most of the time you have with the ones you love, and accepting the hurt to gain invaluable memories to treasure, I think this one is for you. Knowing a little bit of Japanese also makes the whole thing so much sweeter because of name signification, but it's definitely not required.
[Koe no Katachi](https://anilist.co/anime/20954/Koe-no-Katachi/) or A Silent Voice. It's a movie as well. Might be triggering as it deals with bullying and an attempt at redemption from the bully. It's probably far too optimistic and the romance between the bully and the bullied feels a bit weird, but other than that, it's great. How it depicts loneliness, distrust, depression has hit close to a lot of people. Despite the heavy themes, it is undoubtly optimistic and hopeful, advocating for communication, understanding, and forgiveness.
[Kusuriya no Hitorigoto](https://anilist.co/anime/161645/Kusuriya-no-Hitorigoto/) or The Apothecary Diaries. A "medieval" Chinese court intrigue anime. It's never clearly stated that it's China, but everything depicted implies that much. It's basically a mystery anime mixed with royal court politics. The heroine is a strong-willed weirdo who's obsessed with plants and toxins, which lands her a job as a food tester for one of the concubines of the Emperor. Unfortunately, that also means for her getting closer to the top of the court and getting involved in its politics despite her simply wanting to live peacefully until she's deemed useless and kicked from the palace. A maajority of the cast is female, and nearly all of them stand on their own and do not simply serve as a trophy.
[Liz to Aoi Tori](https://anilist.co/anime/100178/Liz-to-Aoi-Tori/) or Liz and the Blue Bird. It's a spin-off movie for the TV series Hibike! Euphonium. It's totally fine to watch it as a stand-alone because it focuses on 2 side characters from the main series that are introduced mostly in the second season. Watching the series beforehand will get your a better mileage however, that is for sure. In any case, this is a very calm and introspective movie about the friends who had a fallout and are learning to be friends again. It treads a thin line between platonic and romantic feelings, and explores the sacrifices you sometimes have to make in order to let your friendship flourish and what it means to care for someone. The movie was made after Koe no Katachi by the same team because they had a great time working all together. You'll find a similar atmosphere because of that.
[Sousou no Frieren](https://anilist.co/anime/154587/Sousou-no-Frieren/) : one of the big hits from recent years. It's a slowpaced anime again following the adventures of a long-lived elf mage. The story starts right after she and her companions defeat the demon lord and usher an age of peace and she just... leaves her friends to go on a quest to find more magic grimoires. She comes back decades later to fulfil a promise but finds out humans actually die pretty fast compared to elves and... that's what makes her regret not paying more attention to her relationships with her comrades and she goes on a long journey retracing her previous one with her adventure companions, reminiscing all that happened at the time and slowly realizing things about her she never knew. It's beautiful and poetic, subtle yet clear. If you like bittersweet and hopeful anime with some well animated fights here and there and great character interactions, this one's for you. Second season is currently airing right now every Friday.
[Steins;Gate](https://anilist.co/anime/9253/SteinsGate/) starts as a silly slice of life anime with silly sci-fi stuff thrown here and there until it picks up the pace and never stops until the end. It is one of those rare pieces of fiction that utilizes modern scientific theories semi-competently actually, and it references quite a lot of real-life events and entities like the CERN (changed to SERN), Akihabara's Radio Hall, or John Titor who became an internet phenomenon in the early 2000s after claiming to be a time traveller.
It's great if you like Sci-Fi, but it's got a lot more to offer !
[Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann](https://anilist.co/anime/2001/Tengen-Toppa-Gurren-Lagann/), to finish on a high note. It's unbridled, balls to the walls fun and madness. Small men get into big robots and fight other big robots until they get unfathomably huge. It sounds stupid, and it is stupid, but at the same time, it's the single most unabashedly naive and optimistic anime I've ever seen and hammers down the idea of never giving up in the face of adversity, no matter how insurmountable it may be to finally triumph and let your life live its course instead of letting it stagnate out of apathy and disconnect with yourself. It's incredibly uplifting if you let yourself be carried by its wave of positivity, but it doesn't hesitate to take itself seriously and have moments of gravity when it counts, making all the themes hit even harder. Beware of the sexualization however. The studio in charge isn't exactly known for being ashamed of showing female characters in weird outifts and positions.
I guess that's enough anime recs for you, so I'll end it here. Again, take care of yourself OP.
