Which anime would you nominate to be specially preserved for future generations?

If there were to be made a registry of anime that was specially preserved so that we never lose them even in centuries, which anime would you nominate to go on that list?

Like anime so important or meaningful that you feel like we should never lose access to.

for me works like Angel's Egg, Belladonna of Sadness and Perfect Blue would take top priority to archive

I'm imagining some dude in a distant, dystopian future randomly discovering this trio and shooting himself in the head after finishing them.

This might be an old person answer, but my personal choice is Tatami Galaxy. It's such a perfect ode to silly, awkward, beautiful, fleeting youth. (It's also based on a novel of the same name, and in case you haven't, i BEG you to read it, as well as Tatami Summertime Machine Blues and The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl. Tomihiko Morimi is an amazing writer). It's like... condenced nostagia. Lots of suggestions in this thread are with no doubt great animes, but i firmly believe that the Zeitgeist that Tatami Galaxy managed to catch so perfectly would be way more interesting for future generations to see.

I never knew Tatami Galaxy was by the same author as The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl! It's shot up on my to watch (and to read)

To serve as a reminder what we would be doing to our children and future generations.

Doraemon for cultural impact (I'm sure there are others but entire generations grew up on this)

And Frieren, since it's a personal favourite

If we're only nominating 1 per person, I'm going old school and choosing ASTRO boy, this was in the Era of og anime and what helped push it into what we know and love today.

Vampire Hunter D. The art style is too gorgeous

The_Abyss_Of_Thought2026-01-31 03:06

If we’re talking a series. Naruto, there’s a lot of depth of emotion, great combat, character growth, comedy, and solid animation. I’m not sure if all of the filler would make our future anime successors lose all faith in us tho lol. Maybe Hunter X Hunter?

NeptuneOW2026-01-31 08:36

Honestly? Frieren and Attack on Titan

InFiendity2026-01-31 09:59

Code Geass, Parasyte the Maxim, Hellsing Ultimate
