Serious question, why the down-votes? I'm actually curious

Because no one cares or wants to see these kinds of comments.

Traditionally, the most correct use of downvotes in a comment thread is for comments which do not contribute to the discussion. And there is no type of comment which contributes *less* to any discussion than the dreaded "first" proclamation.
(On the other hand, *your* comment appears to be an honest question and should not have been downvoted so heavily, that can probably be attributed to the pile-on effect - the type of comment redditors love to downvote more than any other is ... a comment that has already been downvoted.)

I appreciate these whenever you post them. I would love to see one for A Star Brighter Than The Sun.

Just means you're terrible at detecting GenAI images, given that Strike Witches S1 came out nearly 20 years ago lol
Still, there's an easy fix! Get a Pixiv account, and search for ~~R18+ of~~ your favorite series and you'll rapidly discover that current GenAI models tend to produce images that are *more* detailed than typical hand drawn work than the average anime staff member has time to make.
Also, they tend to have more cinematic lighting, and have the contrast and saturation that one usually sees in *finished* anime. This last part is important, because GenAI (when creating images from a particular series) is trained on the finished animated product, and **not** what the character designers and key animators draw (which isn't put through the post-processing that's done to make modern anime look the way it looks). Thus the simpler, flatter drawings with more muted colors are much more likely to be hand drawn, at least at the moment.

okay im brainrotted then, probably a chicken and egg thing. Nice write up though.

Best thing about these are that they're (mostly) such "normal" and serious (i.e. non-horny) illustrations in contrast to what's in the series itself; a delightful inversion of the way eye-catches are usually more saucy lol
That said, for all its reputation as the underage-non-pants anime, *Strike Witches* is equally also the show that these eyecatches would have you believe it is - an exciting, historically influenced tale of heroic girls who take their combat very seriously, with not only their own lives but also the fate of the world itself at stake.
Now if only we could get more of the main story, rather than the spinoffs!

On the other hand, I would *love* more Luminous. That spinoff gave us a nice look at what more of the world is up to, away from the front lines, and explored some of the magic that the main line has been outright ignoring.
