I'm new to anime and need recommendations.
Hi all, I've been wanting to get into anime, but I'm not sure where to start. I need recommendations for all types of anime as I'm not sure what I would be most interested in. I prefer comedy and romance type shows, but I also enjoy horror and action so there's nothing really I wouldn't be open to trying. I'm also okay with some out of pocket suggestions because I've recently learned some shows can get a bit ridiculous and it would be fun to experience. Any recommendations or advice welcome!

Romance love is war

A political thriller full metal alchemist
An action with more depth attack on titan
A action with romance elements dandadan however dandadan is insane
An action that is becoming really popular and is gonna be really good chainsaw man
A mystery show earesed
A grounded show a bout trama takopis original sin
(Keep in mind I’m bad at spelling so I probably butchered a lot of these)
Sounds like Dandadan.

Attack on Titan (Action with some horror mixed in)

Death Note (cat and mouse thriller)
Chainsaw Man (supernatural action comedy)
Jujutsu Kaisan (supernatural action with some comedy)

Any Studio Ghibli movies (basically kids styled movies targeted to adults)
Bungo Stray Dogs (detective action comedy based on famous authors)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (starts off as an mecha action show, but turns into a psychological horror halfway through. This one was my first but it is very dark, so you might want to hold off and watch this one after watching some others)

13 episodes you are not gonna regret it
Personally I don't keep up with ongoing shows and almost all my experience is from the late 1990s through early 2010s, so my recommendations also tend to be from that era. Also, anime inherently tends to be targeted at either male or female audiences specifically, and while this isn't a hard-and-fast rule (girls liking shounen shows is common enough), for you, looking into shoujo and josei shows is probably a safer bet, especially if you want to avoid a lot of ecchi fanservice aimed at guys.
>I prefer comedy and romance type shows, but I also enjoy horror and action so there's nothing really I wouldn't be open to trying.
I daresay you could try:
- Kaichou wa Maid-sama
- Vampire Knight
- Azumanga Daioh
- Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)
- Vision of Escaflowne
- Rozen Maiden (2004)
- Karin
- Toradora
- Kazemakase Tsukikage Ran
- Mai-HiME
- Mahoraba
- Angel Beats
- Shakugan no Shana
I put these roughly in 'recommended watch order' for an approachable experience and a reasonable amount of variety. Mai-HiME is probably the ecchiest of these and it's still fairly tame compared to some of the stuff that's out there, so you can get a pretty good idea of what your tolerance is.
Jojos Bizzare Adventure, Attack On Titan,
Hunter x Hunter, One Punch Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Ghoul
BTW I only gave you the titles of the first seasons so look for their sequels.
I don't usually like romance anime not the romance is slow and subtle due to status differences.
Focus on main characters solving mysteries and politics
It seems like there is no shortage of suggestions. Make sure to keep a pen and paper handy to write down your favorite tropes/patterns.
**Akiba Maid War:** Heavy action, insane plot, ridiculous concept. You won't know what you watched until it is over. Best Yakuza anime.
**Frieren:** There is comedy, some chill vibes, amazing action and even some slow burn romance. Great sense of adventure.
**Clevatess:** Dark fantasy, not skimping out on the gore. It is definitely horrific and action heavy. But it has some great comedic moments also. Amazing world building and background art.
