Need an anime like "Hell's Paradise"

Heyy
I reeeally liked Hell's Paradise. And I'm looking for suggestions similar to **Hell's Paradise**, **Dororo**, and **Seraph of the End**.

* **Please no annoying, over-the-top comedy.** Black Clover had parts that were unbearable to me — characters like Charmy are incredibly annoying to me.
* **No harem-style adventures** where characters just collect members of the opposite gender.
* **Animation must look beautiful** — *not old* or low-quality style.

Thank you!

I don't have any recs, I just don't understand how people can think 'old animation looks bad' with things like eva or Akira out there

Anito4ka2026-01-30 22:48

To each their own, I guess :c
I do not like it visually, unfortunately

jibishot2026-01-30 22:53

There is no singular anime style, regardless of when it was made.

I have a feeling you don't like mass-produced anime from the 90s - that's fine, but it doesn't take away from the incredible style of those classics and why animation today trys to chase it (with less input time)

Anito4ka2026-01-30 22:59

Ah, tbh I do not feel anything towards it. I don't doubt it's good. Ppl like it for a reason.

I just haven't seen anything from that time that I personally would find visually pleasing, so...

jibishot2026-01-30 23:06

Try FLCL for max level animation stylization.

Doesn't fall into this category you're talking about in this post, but as far as unreached standards compared to anything of the past 10 years.. FLCL is in another galaxy.

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:18

Thank you!

jibishot2026-01-30 22:48

Claymore is probably the classic choice.

It may have been animated a bit ago, but it doesn't show its age at all. Fantastic read as well.

MusubiKazesaru2026-01-30 23:26

That's what I would have gone with, even the island setting makes it feel like its being referenced somewhat.

dragonslayer26892026-01-30 22:49

Jjk is pretty similar to Hell’s paradise. You may hear things about lobotomy kaisen and the fandom not reading, but the themes and writing of the story itself are top tier.

I’m rewatching it with my girlfriend right now, and we’re surprised with how many deep themes and foils are woven through literally every interaction/fight.

Anito4ka2026-01-30 22:51

Thank youu! Made me wanna check it out!

Equivalent_Bar_59382026-01-30 22:50

2nd seasons out

Anito4ka2026-01-30 22:52

ik ik haha
so beautiful 🤧🤧

KagakuNinja2026-01-30 22:53

Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Dorohedoro

Demon Slayer does have some annoying character tropes, not as bad as Black Clover (which I also found annoying for multiple reasons).

Anito4ka2026-01-30 22:57

Ah, yeah, I watched everything there is for Demon Slayer! Very beautiful one too
Hmm, as for Chainsaw Man, I always thought it was way too violent, so I was hesitant to start it, but maybe I should...
Dorohedoro looks very funny. What did you like it for?

KagakuNinja2026-01-30 23:03

Chainsaw Man does seem to be competing for most violent anime of all time, but Hell's Paradise is pretty brutal IMO. Many fans of the manga complained about the art style, but if anything, it is modern and beautiful like you asked...

Dorohedoro is just bizarre and fun. Unique and interesting world building.

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:16

Oh really? Hell's Paradise was pretty chill for me.
I'll give it a try then
Thank you for the ideas ☺️

KagakuNinja2026-01-30 23:38

I mean, bodies being sliced into tiny pieces, then the bad guy regenerates, and they keep on hacking until they figure out how to kill it. I think there is a "rain of blood" scene in season 2.

TrentIsDope2026-01-30 22:56

Chainsaw Man. Yuji Kaku used to work under the mangaka of Chainsaw Man (Tatsuki Fujimoto). I think you'll like it.

daveyman232026-01-30 22:58

Rewatching season 1 and starting season 2 of Hells Paradise, I realized it's fairly similar to Full Metal Alchemist. If you haven't watched it yet, watch FMA: Brotherhood. I think youll like it quite a bit

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:02

Ah, sounds so good!
It is normally not the type of art style I watch but maybe I can give it a try!! thank you

TipsyContempt2026-01-30 23:01

Fate stay unlimited blade works, heaven’s feel and fate zero (in this order)

Dark existential themes, and great animation. Fate strange fake is currently airing and watch that after!

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:10

Oh, is it like the same series? Same universe?
And the titles go like:

* **Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works**
* **Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel**
* **Fate/Zero**
* **Fate/strange Fake**

Did I understand it correctly?

TipsyContempt2026-01-30 23:12

Correct! Same universe but different plot points, it’s based off a visual novel in which there are different choices the main character makes.

Fate zero is the prequel chronologically but makes more sense to watch as a sequel IMO

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:13

ohhhh, wow
I haven't watched something like that before
thank you for the recommendation!

Interesting_Self50712026-01-30 23:01

To Your Eternity

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:05

Had it on my list before, but lost the name
Thank you so much!

RyaReisender2026-01-30 23:01

Gantz is probably most similar to Hell's Paradise in terms of content.

I recommend Made In Abyss for similar amazing fantastical and deadly scenery.

Low-Glancer-Roy2026-01-30 23:02

It might be on Netflix, but "Dragon's Dogma" got single shot one season anime. Fantastic setting, inspired by the Capcom game.

Similar "Doomed Adveturer Swept Up Into A Harrowing Journey" like Hell's Paradise, and VERY bleak.

Another one, sci-fi, art director of the final fantasy Yoshitaka Amano, "exception", space ship crew goes to terraform an alien planet. This one knocked my socks off. VERY CREEPY, so good....

"Spriggan" the feature length movie, NOT THE ANIME!!!! In the movie, the hero is like mid-20s, in the anime, he's a highschool student. I hated the anime... bad ass action that is almost unrivaled in anime movies. It's contemporary sci-fi, like super soldier stuff.

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:34

Uuuu, exception looks very creepy indeed 😭
I'll try watching "Dragon's Dogma" first haha

As for "Spriggan", is it the 90 min one? *Spriggan* (1998)

Low-Glancer-Roy2026-01-31 01:25

Yes! 1998!

It is SPECTACULAR!

The anime... makes Yu Ominae into a horny high schooler. It... made me so sad 😞

Im_the_Keymaster2026-01-30 23:16

>**Animation must look beautiful** — *not old* or low-quality style.

F

my condolences on the brainrot.

Antiviralposter2026-01-30 23:26

You’ve gotten a lot of recommendations that are great.

I’m going to suggest Horimiya because the voice actors for the English dub for the two main characters are the same and it’s “like” that in that way.

Totally throws me for a loop but in a good way.

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:29

Oh really! hahah, cute
Who are the characters?? I haven't watched dubbed anime before.
And yes, I remember Horimiya as a pleasant anime

Antiviralposter2026-01-31 00:42

Gabimaru=Miyamura
Sagiri=Hori

It really threw me for a loop in a completely good way.

I used to be a purest too- but the English voice actors are cast so well now. I know people hate it- but it’s so much better now than it was 20 years ago.

This-Fix10582026-01-30 23:27

Ore dake level up na ken(you prob already saw it), Teogonia

Anito4ka2026-01-30 23:30

I actually haven't
writing bot of these down! Thank youu

This-Fix10582026-01-30 23:40

You won't be disappointed. They're just perfect

ap4ss3rby2026-01-31 00:19

Clevatess might fit the bill here. Dark, brutal, solid story with gorgeous animation and sound design.

hanky22026-01-31 04:13

My favorite part of Hell’s Paradise was the characters exploring a hellish place full of secrets to uncover. The closest anime to that would be Made In Abyss. Basically there’s explorers that go down an abyss and the deeper you go the more dangerous it is and it’s harder to get out. Eventually there’s a point of no return and you can’t leave without dying. I will say it’s much more disturbing than Hell’s Paradise so it isn’t for everyone.
