Iirc this would fully adapt the manga. I guess it would happen after Bocchi since Elusive Samurai is next in the production line's order.
Railgun_8S2026-01-31 00:00
Or there is a not yet announced Shin Wakabayashi Project coming as well (not sure if anything was confirmed that hes going go direct [Boku wa Robot Goshi no Kimi ni Koi wo Suru](https://anilist.co/anime/101635/Boku-wa-Robot-Goshi-no-Kimi-ni-Koi-wo-Suru/) since he is credited with the PV), assuming that he is staying in the Umehara Line.
alan_142026-01-31 02:03
I think the only anime that they worked on together after WEP is only MDUD S2 episode 5. The upcoming S3 can happen without him because he's not one of the main staff.
CumoThesis2026-01-31 03:03
The problem isn't that Wakabayashi is a core staff member of Kisekoi, as you said, he isn't, but rather that he is a member of Umehara's production line at CW, therefore, a new project of his would likely be produced by this team, which is the same as Kisekoi's (and even if a new project of his isn't made there, all his contacts are Umehara team members, so in practice, it'd probably still be something to be considered). That is to say that a lot of the staff would end up overlapping, spreading the team thin and complicating the production schedule if both productions were to take place at a similar time frame (which is something this production line has suffered with in the past, Bocchi, in spite of looking great, was not a healthy production behind the curtains). The matter would be further complicated by the fact that Wakabayashi is very ambitious and has previously been quite uncompromising when trying to bring his vision to life. I have to assume this wouldn't be as big of a problem now as it was in WEP, that show must served as an important learning experience for him, but still, it's hard to imagine his ambition simply vanished, his 2025 output certainly suggests it hasn't.
alan_142026-01-31 05:10
The thing is, Wakabayashi is hired to be a Director by other Animation Producer at A-1. Yes he can ask the producer to bring Umehara's team, but at the end it's up to the Animation Producer. Now, I'm not saying that the chance of overlapping is 0. It could be that the producer working in those new project happens to hire the same staff that Umehara hired in the past, or maybe they hire based on Wakabayashi's recommendation.
CumoThesis2026-01-31 06:16
> Wakabayashi is hired to be a Director by other Animation Producer at A-1
I mean, is he though? Everything he's done in the past year was an Umehara project, the last time Wakabayashi even appeared in a non-Umehara thing was Darling in the Franxx and even then, that one is arguable, the one episode where he worked was one of the three handled by Umehara. If you exclude Darling, Wakabayashi's last non-Umehara work was nine years ago with his episode of Mahoujin Guru Guru. The other user mentioned Boku wa Robot, which yes, is listed as an A-1 Pictures project, but some things need to be noted. First of all, there's no real reason to assume that is going to be Wakabayashi's next project, if anything, there's good reason to believe the opposite, there hasn't been any news about it ever since the 2017 PV and the Twitter account for the movie has been dead for nearly 6 years (and that's after it already took a 2 year break between 2018 and 2020), it's not impossible for it to be in the works, of course, but it does feel increasingly unlikely that we'll ever see it come to life. The second thing worth noting is that even if the movie does come out, there's good reason to believe that it won't be a Wakabayashi project, the PV he directed and [Umehara handled](https://x.com/kafunsyokougun/status/925563053420060672) was pre-animated and it's not uncommon for those to have considerably different staff lists as the projects they are supposed to promote, if anything, the fact that it's been nearly a decade since the PV and Wakabayashi has exclusively worked with Umehara's team during this time probably makes it all the more likely that the Boku wa Robot itself would have a different staff from the one seen nine years ago. Unless there's a leak I'm unaware of, based on all the information we have there's no reason to assume Wakabayashi is at A-1 doing something instead of sticking with Umehara as he's done for the past years, either making a new project of his own or just training new people at Cloverworks/storyboarding/directing episodes and small scale projects as he has done since WEP wrapped up.
Railgun_8S2026-01-31 13:02
>since the 2017 PV
First of all, you explained it much better than I did right before I went to sleep. But what do you mean 2017? That PV can't be from 2017... I thought that Trailer was just a few Years ago not like almost 10 Years. Yeah that movie is more likely dead just like ufotables famous Girls Work.
Railgun_8S2026-01-31 03:07
Yeah it doesn't need Wakabayashi for MDUD BUT if theres a new Wakabayashi Project I still assume that it will be in this Production Line (the Umehara Line, the Animation Producer of MDUD, Elusive Samurai or WEP), and if so that could delay a 3rd Season of MDUD.
alan_142026-01-31 05:18
I mean, Umehara belongs to CloverWorks and that project is over at A-1. I don't think A-1 will borrow Umehara just for that project because they have a decent amount of Animation Producer.
EmilDesu2026-01-31 10:07
I like your pfp
Railgun_8S2026-01-31 13:05
Look at that, another based user!
Would love to use that one Spider-man Meme now. (You probably now which one I mean)
GravyFantasy2026-01-31 00:54
Oh yay, I hadn't heard about elusive samurai. The art was wonderful
TheBusStop122026-01-30 23:37
I hope they do it eventually. There aren't enough completed romance anime out there, and this is one of my favorites
tripleaamin2026-01-30 23:46
I hope Boku Yabai gets an S3 announcement after the movie comes out since volume 14 the next one will be the last and that easily can be a full adaptation.
Fools_Requiem2026-01-30 23:57
A complete adaptation would be nice, but this show felt like one of the few where they end the anime in a spot that FEELS like the end. Kinda like S2 of Euphonium.
Drayenn2026-01-31 00:07
Wait, do you mean that the manga is ending?
tripleaamin2026-01-31 00:07
yes volume 14 is the last.
Drayenn2026-01-31 01:40
Damn, i didnt really read the manga because i want to experience it in anime form, but i wasnt aware the end was this close. This does smell like S3 could happen really soon. It's in my top5 anime of all time.
Purposelygentle2026-01-31 00:09
There is, however, a spinoff manga focused on Kyo’s sister that’s going pretty strong.
ClemFire2026-01-31 00:26
Wait what, I need to check that out
manualex162026-01-31 00:44
Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu - Love Comedy ga Hajimaranai is the name
HydraTower2026-01-31 00:53
Yo??
TheSpartyn2026-01-31 06:38
oh wow that was crushing to read, i missed that news. with how each volume is about 14 chapters, with bi-weekly releases thats just over half a year left
i was originally planning to reread and catch up since i havent read it since the summer arc, but i guess ill wait until its all done. hope the ending is as good as the rest of the series
ClemFire2026-01-30 23:48
After S2, I put it up there with The Dangers in My Heart for 2020s romances. Also I feel like \[Dress-Up S2\] >!The season ended at a point that was just begging for a follow-up since the romance itself is quite slowburn, so I am really hoping to a future confession scene animated!<
bondsmatthew2026-01-31 22:33
The manga is ending so maybe that'll be a catalyst for a S3 confirmation soon?
Zoulogist2026-01-31 00:07
Is this show really a romance anymore? Season 2 is more slice of life
TheBusStop122026-01-31 00:08
Slice of life + romance is what I live for

[Season 3] >!miscommunication!<
-lq_pl-2026-01-31 00:50
Season 2 felt like a filler most of the time. And the ending was a cruel tease. No progress in the relationship of the main chars. Very frustrating. I wanted to like the series, and there were a few good ideas, like the guy who cosplays girls, but it largely felt like a waste of time.
AzorAhai1TK2026-01-31 01:47
This is wild to me. The show had a ton of heart and good plotlines this season, and it felt like a massive improvement over Season 1 (which I was iffy on overall). It's a slice of life too, just because the romance wasn't advancing much doesn't mean it was a waste of time or filler.
LakerBlue2026-01-31 06:25
Agreed. I can see someone who only wants romance being disappointed in season 2 but calling it filler (directly or indirectly) is crazy. I actually loved season 1 but I also loved season 2 for the various plot threads, character interactions and just the general comedic moments on display.
The difference between MDUD S2 and some mid or bad romcoms is they don't waste your time playing the "will-they-or-won't they?" game. It is an occasional thing (that imo was played well for comedy for the most part), but for the most part the show is more focused on SoL and comedy. There are actual plot threads happening and characters having moments or growth that are interesting and feel meaningful to them.
It's not one of those bad romcoms where the side characters feel like they just exist to slow down the romance or as gag characters.
My only romance complaint was the ending of season 2 feeling like a cop-out.
wterrt2026-01-31 07:14
nah you can't tease a confession for an entire half of a season 2 and then not do it at the end and instead get a SELFIE
that's just criminal. instantly ruined the show retroactively for me like the final GoT season.
if you want to be a slice of life show that's totally fine, but then don't fucking tease a confession CONSTANTLY only to not do it.
AnimeMeansArt2026-01-31 02:26
Oh really? That sucks then, dont really like romance anime which drags on with the romance part
YoloJoloHobo2026-01-31 03:12
Tbf it won't drag on much since if there's a S3 it'd probably be the final one. Manga is only 119 chapters
AnimeMeansArt2026-01-31 05:52
I see, thats not that long.
SSjjlex2026-01-31 03:21
there's really two ways to view it.
One is that it believe that it is a romance show that does drag on and suffers because of it.
The other is to believe there was never any romance in the first place and to interpret it as purely a slice of life show. I'm in the latter camp and I think it outshines the first season thanks to dropping any assumption that development is needed/desired.
TheElusiveEllie2026-01-31 02:59
That was how I felt with the manga - it dragged for *so long*. I finished it eventually, but the number of times I told myself I was going to drop it because they just kept doing the same thing [manga spoilers but not anything specific] >!of her deciding she'd DEFINITELY confess after this ONE EVENT and then after that one event something happens and it prevents her from confessing! So then she decides to confess after this NEXT ONE EVENT!< and it got so frustrating.
Xx420EdgeLord69xX2026-01-31 04:15
I got mad downvoted for echoing the same sort of opinion about S2 when it was airing. S1 of MDUD is like a 9/10 for me, but S2 was probably a 5 or 6. I didn't hate it, it was not the home run that season 2 was.
ConceptWeird40262026-01-31 11:12
guy watching his first slice of life: "why is this thing just filler?"
wormfood862026-01-30 23:38
I hope they do since the first two were good.
majideitteru2026-01-30 23:39
Oh fantastic news! Is there enough story to do a full season though?
Xanill2026-01-30 23:43
yes there's still about 40 chapters left
Purposelygentle2026-01-30 23:45
Plus the spinoff
Throwaway0216142026-01-31 04:19
There’s a spinoff?
Purposelygentle2026-01-31 04:30
Yeah, Chu (My Dress-up XOXO english title). It’s only 12/13 short chapters, more slice of life than the main manga. But it’s enough to take up 2-ish episodes, or maybe a season worth of after credit stingers.
County_Difficult2026-01-31 00:12
How many episodes is that? 12-13 episodes/basically a full season, ye?
ridewiththerockers2026-01-30 23:45
There should be for a 1 cour, but the last few arcs of the manga are the heaviest in terms of emotions and character progression so 1 cour might mean it had very little room to breathe.
ali941272026-01-31 00:12
There's only about enough content for 9 episodes, though you could make a reasonable argument it should be 10 episodes with how dense some of the chapters are. Season 2 also went at a much faster pace with some minor skipped content. Season 3 could also have some more anime original content to get to a full cour.
ClemFire2026-01-31 00:27
Honestly would be very down with extra anime original story too
charistraz952026-01-31 00:19
they finished the manga for my dress up darling with like 40 chapters
RottenPingu12026-01-30 23:40
Of course they are doing a season 3. It's an absolute cash cow for all involved.
ClemFire2026-01-30 23:43
I would be soo happy if they did S3 with the same love put into S2. CloverWorks is my favorite studio, and I haven't loved one of their works as much since Bocchi the Rock.
Strange_Ad_96582026-01-31 01:57
They absolutely didn’t have to go so hard. Felt like movie-quality animation in a TV budget
ClemFire2026-01-31 03:53
I know right, literally simple shots like Marin swiping through her phone had more key frames than some other anime’s whole episodes.
Also it really had a live action feel with all the interesting angles every scene had just made it so much more dynamic.
Strange_Ad_96582026-01-31 03:54
yes! it felt like a live-action drama with the angles and cuts. but its also super duper anime
ClemFire2026-01-31 06:19
Yeah especially some of the segments like \[Dress-Up S2\] >!The puppet show and Gojo imagining Marin eating 1 billion calories felt like skits straight out of Bocchi the Rock and yet you have scenes too like Marin's photoshoot from Gojo's POV that was movie quality and felt like the animators flexing. That one in particular was my favorite animation sequence last year.!< CloverWorks had a lot of great anime last year, but those moments made the show feel like the studio's darling
Mukaido2026-01-31 09:07
That animation staff is wonderful. It makes sense that you mentioned Bocchi the Rock earlier because well, quite a bunch of the staff that worked on My Dress Up Darling in Season 2 actually worked on Bocchi the Rock. And it shows so much.
The assistant director of My Dress Up Darling Season 2 is going to be the director of Bocchi the Rock Season 2.
ClemFire2026-01-31 14:45
This is why I'm 100% confident in Bocchi the Rock S2, and believe it'll be just as peak if not even higher than S1.
I recently rewatched Dress-Up S2 and still can't get over how much better it is than S1 when S1 was already so good.
Pale_Letterhead40342026-01-31 07:40
prolly the best animated romance and they did it while airing 2 other very high profile shows in the same season same day
NecroCannon2026-01-31 03:41
I’m happy to see Cloverworks popping off after the Promised Neverland and even Wonder Egg ending rough, their direction style is genuinely amazing, but holy shit did they have a period where they were struggling
WEP was so close to being top favorite, but it’s in that awkward category as an artist where I mostly love it just for the inspiration it brings me.
Azaana2026-01-30 23:46
I need the hannial arc and I need them to do that moment of completion when he finishes making it justice.
Also minorly smooth out the ending and Im happy.
Specific_Frame85372026-01-30 23:48
Please have them be a couple from early on, I despise cowardly anime where they get a single kiss at the end of the run.
duncandun2026-01-30 23:59
weird bot response
Specific_Frame85372026-01-31 00:01
Beep boop? I can have opinions.
AdOnly58762026-01-30 23:49
Enough for a 10 to 13 episode anime with some OC anime content with input from Fukada sensei is what I would love for season 3
Organic-Habit-30862026-01-30 23:50
Hope it happens but not betting on it. I was so confident that Kaguya would get fully adapted, especially after the ice arc special, and then that just didn't happen.
ali941272026-01-31 00:12
Problem is that Kaguya had a shit ton more content after that arc.
skellez2026-01-31 00:31
And I still would've adapted it all, or at least most of it, I still feel that in the unadapted Kaguya last half, there's some of the series' best moments and funniest chapters and bits. def don't doubt that they could've gotten like 2 more great seasons and 1 okay final season, and still make it all back
But I don't tie myself to that hope anymore, the time for that was with a season 4 like four years ago atp
ali941272026-01-31 00:38
I would've too, but thought it wasn't a great sign when they didn't announce a new season soon after the movie came out. Now we know that's never gonna happen.
skellez2026-01-31 00:51
yeah people love the seasonal cours format, I do too but I fear it's like the worst thing that could've happened for actually completing adaptations, most series won't have the latent upside to adapt works that have been finished for years.
ali941272026-01-31 01:17
It's not really the seasonal cour format. I think the biggest problem is that so many anime are made as advertisements for the source material, so you get a shit ton of one cour seasons that never go anywhere and manpower is spent on them. Also disincentivizes finished or near-finished series. It's only when an anime does well that they suddenly decide to do a second season. This applies to MDUD itself. Of course, in the west, we're also facing this issue where it takes years for a successful show to get a second season.
County_Difficult2026-01-31 00:15
No way this doesn't get fully adapted atp, especially since the remaining chapters is basically fit for a single season. It's just that we don't know how long it will take for. I'm pretty sure it's guaranteed to get fully adapted and finished.
Xlegace2026-01-31 00:22
The question is moreso if it's going to be a season 3 or a movie/OVA series because the remaining content isn't enough for a full cour.
If anything, Kaguya-sama is the outlier where it had such a janky adaptation release schedule.
aznmeep2026-01-31 13:35
The Stairway to Heaven OVA was just released about a month ago. And a final chapters adaptation was announced.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-01-31 19:34
it's more of an alternate/extended ending that seems to be announced, there's way too much actual manga content that they won't be able to cover
SameEnergy2026-01-30 23:51
Way too pervy. She’s an underage high school student. There’s an up-skirt shot in the first episode. Oh because the male MC is also underage it makes it ok. 🤣
SameEnergy2026-01-30 23:58
Anime fans aren’t beating the allegations.
FeefuWasTaken2026-01-31 00:01
Wait until you hear that the main character is also a highschool student
SameEnergy2026-01-31 00:07
You think all the “fanservice” shots are for a fictional character?
FeefuWasTaken2026-01-31 00:14
They're not "for" anybody else, it's a girl using her own autonomy to show her love for erotic media. But the main character still goes into a near constant state of blushing due to it
Fools_Requiem2026-01-30 23:54
> He later added that he would be grateful if people watched Season 2 and **bought the original work**
I really dislike that anime constantly hinges on how well the source sells. I get you want the manga to sell so they can keep making it and be able to finish the story, but I wish anime was more dependent on viewership and BD releases as a way to determine if more seasons are worth making or not worth making.
Quiddity1312026-01-31 00:13
In the age of streaming, and an era where numerous anime fans claim they pirate or promote pirating, relying on BD release sales would be a terrible idea to assess an anime's success.
skellez2026-01-31 00:37
There's a reason why Netflix and Movies are becoming more popular, since those allow studios to make money directly from viewership
But a lot of fans complain about that too so oh well
1000-MAT2026-01-31 03:41
No, that has nothing to do with it. First, the films are more popular, and the production companies are making a lot of money from it, especially Aniplex and Toho, Secondly, being on Netflix doesn't mean the anime is funded by them, and thirdly, many studios aren't even independent, like Clover Works itself.
skellez2026-01-31 04:01
missed my point, ik how it works what you say is true but the broader point is that movies and Netflix ultimately actually pay for anime just for the fact that it gets viewership, so it doesn't matter as much if the anime fails to translate to manga or merch boosts for it to continue
Like Demon Slayer and JoJos are gonna get their follow ups made regardless just because they sell tickets/subscriptions, who receives that money is another thing, but that's another issue
1000-MAT2026-01-31 04:35
Yes, I understand now, That's actually the reason why anime get sequels with lower quality, because people will keep watching them anyway, and the same thought process occurs with Pokémon.
1000-MAT2026-01-31 03:37
Anime doesn't depend so much on how well the original source sells; in most cases nowadays, whether the original source is doing well or not doesn't affect a second season that much. Firstly, if the production company doesn't own the original material, they don't profit from sales of the original work. In this case, the production company is Aniplex and the manga publisher is Square Enix.
Critical_Progress4032026-01-30 23:58
Easier to make a movie, the last episode of the second season fits up to the twelfth volume of the manga more or less
ali941272026-01-31 00:16
That would be an extremely long movie. There are about 30 chapters of content remaining, some of which are longer than normal due to the changed production schedule. Season 1 adapted 40 chapters. Without removing a significant amount of material, that's around 3 hours of content. That would be the longest animated movie ever made.

The last thing the ending of this series needs is more cut content lol. Umehara and his team are extremely talented, so I have faith they'll be able to expand the third season to end the series on a satisfying note.
Froz3n2472026-01-31 00:03
I really hope we get a full adaptation for next season as we have about 40 chapters remaining. I'm still salty about how Kaguya sama series was completely botched with their approach.
Quiddity1312026-01-31 00:11
I literally just finished watching season 2 for the first time last night. Would very much welcome a season 3!
bongmitzfah2026-01-31 00:21
I'd be devested if they didn't do the haniel arc. It has my favourite panel from the entire series.
FetchFrosh2026-01-31 00:25
This seems like a non-story. An interviewer said "I'd like to see a season 3" and the interviewee basically responded with "that'd be fun, but there's nothing in the pipeline". It's the shortest answer in the entire interview and this article is basically just a clickbait site trying to pull the juiciest possible headline out of it.
Leaves_Swype_Typos2026-01-31 01:56
Users want their copium. Another season won't help sell more manga or other mediums (no games, no novels, no stage plays, no more live action IIRC), so it's an uphill battle to justify the expenditure, particularly given the studio's quality (cost) and the constant stream of new properties to push. Merchandise can only cover so much,
1000-MAT2026-01-31 03:31
No, I don't know where you got the idea that the goal is to sell manga. When it comes to other media, they always invent something on the spot. Of course, anime itself is popular enough to sustain itself.
The biggest challenge is getting the studio and staff free to use.
NecroCannon2026-01-31 03:59
They have some weight with their stance, on the business side of things there’s so much more funding that comes from the following merch and licensing than the series if it’s a success, but with Blu-ray sales dropping, the metric to judge a show’s success is becoming way more complicated, and when it comes to the manga. It’s in their best interest to be close to publishers that want that increase in sales because even a new audience reading their magazine could mean a ton of volume sales on top of magazine sales.
9/10 this series is making bank off licensing and merch, a lot of people aren’t realizing it mirrors our old animation industry in the US where cartoons advertised toys. Except it isn’t just an advertisement in this case, it’s literally making something so popular you can pull sales on all kinds of shit all across the world. Anime with all kinds of games and promotions are literally probably so lucrative across the board along with merch that they can explore ways to get more money.
It’s very 2010s to think anime is still running off manga and Blu-ray sales, there’s a reason the topic of “should we appeal to a more global audience” is starting to get louder there. It’s like when Disney was a powerhouse that could always rely on China that could have a streaming service of their own shit and have it feel worth it… at the time. They’re seeing the money like our corps did.
Your favorite popular anime is fine, trust me. It’s mainly competing with even more popular shit 9/10. OPM is so lucrative outside of the anime that we seen what happened if the mask slips off and they show how much they just see more Yen and saving Yen.

>They have some weight with their stance, on the business side of things there’s so much more funding that comes from the following merch and licensing than the series if it’s a success
No, This is an outdated view that was prevalent until the rise of streaming services; currently, most anime revenue comes from licensing agreements with streaming services, this is the reason why there are so many anime currently, and why it has become much easier for an anime to get a new season nowadays.
>but with Blu-ray sales dropping, the metric to judge a show’s success is becoming way more complicated, and when it comes to the manga. It’s in their best interest to be close to publishers that want that increase in sales because even a new audience reading their magazine could mean a ton of volume sales on top of magazine sales.
As I said, Blu-rays were replaced by the profits of streaming services.
As I said, the big production companies like Aniplex and Toho don't make a penny from selling manga or light novels, so they don't care about it, Even companies like Kadokawa are making more profit from anime than from manga and light novel sales, as you can see from their [financial report.](https://www.reddit.com/r/swordartonline/s/XYkuV1PnyS), That's actually one of the reasons they bought the rights to adapt Oshi no Ko, which isn't even their work.
>It’s very 2010s to think anime is still running off manga and Blu-ray sales, there’s a reason the topic of “should we appeal to a more global audience” is starting to get louder there.
Yes, It's an outdated mentality.
>Your favorite popular anime is fine, trust me. It’s mainly competing with even more popular shit 9/10. OPM is so lucrative outside of the anime that we seen what happened if the mask slips off and they show how much they just see more Yen and saving Yen.
OPM is a case where people will watch no matter what happens, and there will probably be a lot of people defending it, like in the second season, nobody will care if we reduce the quantity.

Can you retype this in a coherent paragraph that isn’t you quoting and repeating yourself so I can actually read and respect your opinion, thanks. One of the Reddit things that honestly should stay in old Reddit because no one has conversations like that lol

Unfortunately, many of the recent articles on this and other sites seem to be like this, where the information is manipulated by what appears to be something much bigger, Like the news that several anime studios are going bankrupt, but when you look at the studios, they're "A-Cat level."
FetchFrosh2026-01-31 04:17
I mean it's Anime Corner. They've never been much more than a bog-standard clickbait farm.
garfe2026-01-31 15:20
In recent years, I've come to appreciate AnimeNewsNetwork for keeping things on the straight and narrow when it comes to anime news compared to basically any other anime news site

But yeah, same kind of answer!
InfiniteEstimate9772026-01-31 00:29
It doesn't need another season at all.
Awful_At_Math2026-01-31 00:34
If they ever make a season 3 I hope they make an anime only ending. Because the manga ending is such a letdown.
MrEmpath112026-01-31 00:40
Just do a movie man, the next arc will really do good in a movie format.
dagreenman182026-01-31 00:58
It prints money and they have just enough for one last season. I don’t see why Cloverworks wouldn’t go for it. This last season was as popular as the first. But earliest would be Post Bochi
TheDanubianCommunard2026-01-31 01:04
I can see a third season will happen, but the question is when.
Final-Ad-66942026-01-31 01:14
Doesn’t dress up darling fall off pretty hard in the manga?
cppn022026-01-31 01:32
Nope.
andydivide2026-01-31 09:52
Yes, right around where s2 ended. The Haniel arc that s3 would cover was a major slog, though it did have absolutely incredible artwork. It also set up a bunch of story threads that went nowhere.
All that said, I'd be up for an s3 as it'd likely be able to resolve most of the pacing issues with the Haniel arc, and could either have some anime-only content that better resolves the dropped storylines, or else just skips over them entirely.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-01-31 19:36
half the "slog" is just the manga release schedule slowing down and people not being able to mentally adjust for that
Likes2game032026-01-31 01:25
How is this even remotely debatable? I'm sure more people saw it than say Rising of the Shield Hero s4. And it's already got a new season confirmed. And better received. Don't belive me, look it compare their numbers on IMBD or MyAnimeList. MDD are higher. Plus, stories already ended and not being milked. And CloverWorks know how to cook. Marvelous-looking anime like this take time. So, no worries.
ClemFire2026-01-31 06:27
I would rather they wait and get the same team after they finish making Bocchi the Rock S2. CloverWorks really knows how to make the source material shine
danmalek4662026-01-31 01:35
Oh please! Yes! I need this!!
amd_hunt2026-01-31 01:41
I bought some merch at the MDuD Pop-up shop in both Dotonbori and Shibuya this month, so I'm doing my part.
nullv2026-01-31 02:06
I like this show, but I'm not sure how many seasons of "not actually in a relationship" I've got in me.
wyn102026-01-31 02:41
Hope they redo the rushed ending in the manga
Sabin10v22026-01-31 02:43
30 chapters is a little thin for a whole season but a little dense for a movie so it's in a bit of an odd place to complete. On the other hand, one piece would turn 30 chapters in to 30 episodes and people love it so who knows.
Terry___Mcginnis2026-01-31 04:10
Ah shit, here we go again.
LegitimateCurve85252026-01-31 06:00
I really hope they complete this anime. There are only 28 chapters left for them to adapt. I really, really hope we get an announcement even if it takes 2 years.
Zeebie_2026-01-31 06:03
I like to see a new season, but maybe continue where the manga left off. I'm sure there were likely other story arcs written that didn't make it to the manga.
FlaviusVespasian2026-01-31 06:07
I just want to see Marin’s dad animated
SnabDedraterEdave2026-01-31 06:13
There's not much source material left, so they're probably going to have to pad in a lot of filler-ish slice of life stuff if they want to fill enough for a season of 12-13 episodes.
The manga ending did seemed a bit rushed, so if they could manage to expand the wholesomeness of the original manga, then I wouldn't mind that.
Or they could do an OVA that does not restrict them on episode count.
Sutlore2026-01-31 07:12
Please do!
ChampionshipIll61712026-01-31 07:12
Starting from scratch is kinda risky, but also exciting. Curious how Season 3 turns out
almostthemainman2026-01-31 15:55
I’m not gonna lie. I’m something of a writer myself. Give me the reins and watch me make the best season yet
ptd1632026-01-31 18:08
I know I'm super late. I hope season 3 gets greenlit. I really enjoyed MDUD, but damn man. Hearing that is nothing is planned kinda despite how popular season 1 and 2 were plus the manga being finished kinda kills the those hopes. Shame. It's rare that we get completed adaptations, much less completed romance adaptations. I thought MDUD could be that.
pikkuhukka2026-01-31 18:42
with previous production quality and art style, ofcourse more would be nice

First of all, you explained it much better than I did right before I went to sleep. But what do you mean 2017? That PV can't be from 2017... I thought that Trailer was just a few Years ago not like almost 10 Years. Yeah that movie is more likely dead just like ufotables famous Girls Work.
Would love to use that one Spider-man Meme now. (You probably now which one I mean)
i was originally planning to reread and catch up since i havent read it since the summer arc, but i guess ill wait until its all done. hope the ending is as good as the rest of the series
Spoiler for potential [season 3:] >!we will exchange the comedy with drama sadly!<
My only romance complaint was the ending of season 2 feeling like a cop-out.
that's just criminal. instantly ruined the show retroactively for me like the final GoT season.
if you want to be a slice of life show that's totally fine, but then don't fucking tease a confession CONSTANTLY only to not do it.
One is that it believe that it is a romance show that does drag on and suffers because of it.
The other is to believe there was never any romance in the first place and to interpret it as purely a slice of life show. I'm in the latter camp and I think it outshines the first season thanks to dropping any assumption that development is needed/desired.
Also it really had a live action feel with all the interesting angles every scene had just made it so much more dynamic.
The assistant director of My Dress Up Darling Season 2 is going to be the director of Bocchi the Rock Season 2.
I recently rewatched Dress-Up S2 and still can't get over how much better it is than S1 when S1 was already so good.
WEP was so close to being top favorite, but it’s in that awkward category as an artist where I mostly love it just for the inspiration it brings me.
Also minorly smooth out the ending and Im happy.
But I don't tie myself to that hope anymore, the time for that was with a season 4 like four years ago atp
If anything, Kaguya-sama is the outlier where it had such a janky adaptation release schedule.
I really dislike that anime constantly hinges on how well the source sells. I get you want the manga to sell so they can keep making it and be able to finish the story, but I wish anime was more dependent on viewership and BD releases as a way to determine if more seasons are worth making or not worth making.
But a lot of fans complain about that too so oh well
Like Demon Slayer and JoJos are gonna get their follow ups made regardless just because they sell tickets/subscriptions, who receives that money is another thing, but that's another issue

The biggest challenge is getting the studio and staff free to use.
