Help with indoctrination of a kid
I’m having the rare opportunity to introduce a kid (7 years old) to anime. What should I show him?
Should I show him the old classics, or actually let him have some common conversation with his peers with the new stuff?
Edit: currently watching Transformers energon at his request.

I'd personally go with recent shows.
Sports genre might make for a fun and constructive introduction.
Best of luck with whatever you choose to show the tyke.
Both the classics and the new series.
They've got action, comedy, emotional parts, little ecchi, a banger of an ending in the manga after over 400 chapters
Obviously needs to be his choice, but you can nudge him towards other shows he may enjoy if he likes certain things. Naturally don't force him to watch shows, that's a one-way ticket to you being despised for boring him or being weird.
Transformers: Armada for example is the first part of a trilogy of sorts: Armada, Energon, Cybertron. Transformers: Armada would work as an introduction to animated work and the story adds more layers to the often viewed 'good vs evil' dynamic of Transformers which Energon and Cybertron only explore a little.
From there go to Transformers: Beast Wars to demonstrate that shows can have strong storylines even if the animations don't hold up as well. At which point you can probably shift to other older 90's/early 2000's animated shows.
Generally your best bet for getting them to start being interested in anime is showing them Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc... cartoons like that which will make them more interested in the animation. Anime choices come later based on what specific attributes he is interested in.
Good luck! i hope they catch anime bug!
They both started with Pokemon. They both started with indigo league. Then my oldest watched most of it in order. My youngest went from indigo league straight to journeys.
They also watched Captain tsubasa. My youngest is also watching digimon (almost 7). They also loved the beyblade burst series.
Pokemon horizons is also unrelated to the original and can be watched as a fresh start.
I watched the original re-watched the first few episodes of Dragonball series and I didn't feel it was appropriate. But that's my feeling.
My 10 year old is watching Naruto, but only after watching other stuff like fairy tail, Haikyuu and legend of dai, card captor Sakura.
7 is a bit young for most of the anime I watch. **Wistoria: Wand and Sword** might be a very good one. Underdog story, very light on the fan service, fast paced and active with fun characters.
**The Dragon Prince, on Netflix**, might be a REALLY good one for his age. I started watching it and honestly was enjoying it for the most part, but was very much geared toward a young audience. The more I think about it the more I think this would be my go to for an anime for that age range.
