What anime should I start my 60yo coworker on?
Now I am extremely well-versed in anime myself, but wanted some opinions. My coworker is great, and she has taught me a lot of cool stuff. She's not what you would expect a 60yo woman would be like. She read the warrior cats books bc I talked about them so much and really enjoyed them. Which of course made us close friends. We both give each other a lot of recommendations for shows and books and stuff and recently I've been telling her about video games. She used to have a Wii but doesn't play anymore. She's very fun and open-minded
For a while I've wanted to introduce her to anime and I've had a few I wanted to try to introduce her to, but it hasn't planned out bc life stuff. Initially we were gonna watch Lazarus that came out last year bc it sounded cool, but it kind of flopped and I didn't even finish it. Then I was going to show her Erased, but didn't get a chance to yet.
So I wanted a few more options for really good anime I could show her. She likes funny stuff and a good story. She's very nontraditional, but I don't want to go too hard on the first anime and make her dislike them. She doesn't seem to mind some crude humor, but I also want to try and avoid as much fan service as possible in the beginning.
What are some good recommendations? And please no wild ones for shock value like Made in Abyss or AoT

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Now why in the world would it be weird, you are the weird one.
It’s really funny (even if you don’t know the anime tropes it makes fun of), has a great story, is fully completed, completely devoid of fan service (to my memory), and is representative of what most of your experiences in anime, especially if you stay within the shonen action sphere, are going to be like, even if it’s much higher quality.
Frieren is also a good show, especially if they’re into fantasy stories, but it’s also fairly unique for modern anime in terms of its pace and more contemplative mood. It’s a great anime, but you could possibly argue it isn’t a great starter anime.
Cowboy Bebop is also a good pick for someone starting out, as it’s maybe one of the easiest transitions into anime (also still one of the best out there), but it has a fair amount of fan service (albeit still far more tasteful than most anime) and it ABSOLUTELY isn’t representative of most of what you’re going to find in anime.
someone already said Frieren, so I'll go with:
- Horimiya
the story telling & progression is great in my opinion
that said, Frieren is an UNREAL story with no adult themes; might be a safer choice if you're concerned about the coitus
I'd recommend Violet Evergarden.
"Frieren" would also be good if she like fantasy shows.
Bartender, With You and the Rain, and Apocalypse Hotel are pretty good, weird in a good way, and have mature stories.
After that, track down the Animal Crossing animated film, it's very cute and with an easygoing story, and maybe she played AC: Let's Go to the City on Wii
Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to be a Kamen Rider
Demon Slayer- Kimetsu no Yaiba
Hell Teacher Jigkoku Sensei Nube (2025)
Given
Gegege no Kitaro (2018)
I looked up "warrior cats" and I admit that I am not familiar with them (the illustrations and panels I saw look nice though!).
How's **"Dungeon Meshi"**?
"Marcille" is a self-insert for people of any sex (very relatable and funny, strong/capable, happens to be female presentation as well!). A deuteragonist that steals the spotlight from the male protagonist.
While "Laios" does push other's buttons, he is incredibly pragmatic and practical even if dense about "common sense" norms.
"Senshi" is sexy (he's male, but sexy) (ok, Senshi might be a dealbreaker, though he isn't nearly as seductive as "Genjirou-chan" from "Golden Kamuy" (male too btw), incubuses the lot of them).
"Chilchuck" is very professional, but the non-halfling races don't seem to appreciate that.
If you are not familiar with Dungeon Meshi and were put off by my banterous description of it, I'd urge you to watch it by yourself to discover some gold written by a woman (and master of fantasy/banter).
And lastly, the show has a girl-cat, note, not cat-girl, the other way around. **Thinks like a cat**, looks human.
I also recommend **"Golden Kamuy"**, though season 1 felt rather slow when I binged it last month. It's full of mature drama, thrilling action, hard-boiled soldiers, and frequent comic relief where these warriors devolve into capricious kids.
I can't vet either of these 2 enough. I also like Frieren, and feel free to choose something else.
