I need some anime recommendation

I really love watching anime. Today, I finished my own anime list, and now I’m looking for something new to watch. Anyway, I especially enjoy anime that are hard to understand (for example, Serial Experiments Lain). I’m open to any recommendations, so feel free to suggest anything.

Hi Main_Angle3664, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

I highly recommend Erased, Psycho-Pass, and Maboroshi

• erased is about a man that time travels 15 years in the past after his mom gets murdered and he finds out a lot of mystery from when he was younger

• psycho-pass is about a dystopian, cyperpunkish world where everyone’s mental stability is monitored and they also use criminals to help them capture other criminals

• maboroshi is about a 14 year old boy who’s town gets frozen in time after a plant explosion and he meets this girl from the future

Thanks for your recommendation , ı already watched erased but psycho-pass looks good !

well, it's not something i would exactly recommend, but if you really want something confusing, "yuri kuma arashi".

To your Eternity is very nice!

Main_Angle36642026-01-31 22:06

What is it about ?

minami_natsume2026-01-31 22:14

The plot follows an immortal creature, Fushi, who wanders the Earth after interacting with humans and developing his own will and consciousness in the process

If you want to watch a somewhat aesthetically similar anime in style and vibe from around that same era with an esoteric, hard to figure out plot that is more atmospheric than narrative-driven then I would suggest you watch Boogiepop Phantom (2000) (you can also watch the 2019 Boogiepop And Others series afterwards if you want more Boogiepop although the tone and style is quite different).

Main_Angle36642026-01-31 22:09

Is ıt that long to watch ?

Keanotaku_Returns2026-01-31 22:46

Boogiepop Phantom is only a 12 episode long series (the 2019 Boogiepop series is longer but not necessary to watch if you are specifically only interested in seeing Phantom for being Lain-like, plus Boogiepop Phantom is its own self-contained thing).

Just started watching trigun stampede it pretty good

myrmidon_mamori2026-01-31 23:01

If you like experimental or cryptic anime like Lain, maybe Mononoke or Boogiepop Phantom (the original from 2000, the more recent Boogiepop and Others is a little easier to follow). Maybe Texhnolyze, too, for some sci-fi, and the movies Perfect Blue and Angel's Egg.

Main_Angle36642026-01-31 23:06

I looked smth about that and ı love it ! Honestly ı think ı found what ı want to watch , thanks a lot !

You're welcome! Glad we could help!

Revolutionary Girl Utena is probably the hardest to understand out of all the anime I've watched. So many things hidden behind surrealism and symbolism.
