Is there an anime where the main character is the villain

Hi Downtownclown_xy206, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Overlord: leader of undead/demon kingdom

Saga of Tanya the evil : leader of a mage unit in WW1 era Germany

Overlord is pretty spot on for what you're asking for

Edit:

Can probably also add The Eminence in shadow here,  it's a parody series but is super fun

Overlord

Saga oif Tanya the Evil

Evil Overlord of an Intergallactic Empire

3rd one is mid though, but the other 2 are quite good

Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra

Code geass

Death note

Saga of Tanya the evil

Terror in resonance

Hellsing ultimate

Villainess Level 99

I'll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History

Deathnote

The main character in Deathnote is unreservedly the villain, most of the other answers are about villains who are sympathetic in some way either personally or in what they're trying to accomplish in the plot

literally any villainess anime by default has the bad guy as the MC

I’m not sure if The Devil is a Part Timer counts?

Re-do of a healer - great for those who glorify rape.

clevatess maybe? the obvious probably like death note and overlord. tensura would be count if we seen rimuru from the human perspective, a new demon lord trying to monopolizes human economy.

There is really not a lot. Most of the time, the MC won't be really "villainous". There is either some grey morality at play or the more villainistic facets get played down heavily.

Id say redo of healer, overlord or you no senki are decent suggestions. None of those are everyone's cup of tea, though. Redo is particularly sadistic revenge porn, overlord is an op MC isekai that is unexpectedly slow and thoughtful, as it doesn't focus much as you'd expect on the OP protags and Tanya is pretty politics heavy at times(though, kudos to Tanya being crazier than the ww1 leadership lol).

Death note ain't bad either. Code Geass and terror in resonance are a bit more of a stretch. And all the villainess anime I am aware of just have the people of the story think the MC is a villainess when she really isn't. Maybe give may I ask your name a try - haven't seen the anime yet but the manga is great. The MC in there is a "villainess but not really" but she basically behaves like a very posh thug that just wants to punch people lol

I guess you can also argue that Eren Yeager is a villain in the eyes of both society and the viewer.

- [x] Overlord
- [x] Code geass
- [x] Death note
- [x] AOT
IMO none of these characters are really villains they all have valid reasons to do what they do except for overlord and saga of Tanya the evil
