I saw that To Your Eternity got a new season and I’ve been wanting to watch it but I’m not sure. A lot of people say it’s quite depressing; is it sadder than something like Attack on Titan?

Chance-Criticism-2212026-02-01 08:23
The first 2 seasons were genuinely peak
I watched a bit of the 3rd season but didn't like it quite as much
MelvinSmiley832026-02-01 08:26
Manga readers say that the chapters that season 3 is based on were also the weakest so that makes sense. Season 4 will probably be better.
Pebble-Sorter-81282026-02-01 11:35
I started the 3rd but got tired and stopped it for a while for now
NoobyNort2026-02-01 17:49
Yeah. The author has added a sort of long running enemy in the form of a stalkery girl that the hero is blind to. It was great in s1, cringe in s2 and I stopped watching s3 because of it. It doesn't help that s3 has really struggled to build any reason to exist, IMO.
But s1 was great 👍
MusubiKazesaru2026-02-01 08:24
It's sadder than SnK, which I don't find sad so much as occasionally tragic.
It's worth watching.
Aggressive-Light-3322026-02-01 08:32
What’s snk
Kitchen_Coach_48702026-02-01 08:35
Shingeki no Kyojin aka Attack on Titan
MusubiKazesaru2026-02-01 08:40
Shingeki no Kyojin
Adorable-Poet-7932026-02-01 08:27
yes. i’m watching now season 2 and i cry. lol
Public_Traffic_34732026-02-01 08:27
It’s sadder but shit lock In and watch it, it’s peak
tapeforpacking2026-02-01 10:33
I hate watching sad shows these days. Id rather watch "isekai trash" over a show thay is good but really sad.
Idk what changed
Emisys2026-02-01 11:59
Maybe you want to relax and chill more than be pushed on negative/sad emotions.
eoz2026-02-01 11:59
International rise of fascism probably
Public_Traffic_34732026-02-01 08:28
If u think aot was sad you should watch akame ga kill
Eat_Bullet2026-02-01 08:35
Akame ga kill was one mess of an anime imo, only few of the deaths felt correct, and rest others were so unnecessary and dumb, it's like they wanted to make it cool but they only made it ass, a good alternative for it would be akudama drive
Public_Traffic_34732026-02-01 08:39
Nah it was good your in denial😭
bigxangelx12026-02-01 09:18
It was an unfaithful adaption that copped out for tragedy bait to try to make it compelling, quit coping man
Public_Traffic_34732026-02-01 09:19
Nah it was good
keirandev2026-02-01 08:47
fair take
Emotional_Trip_93782026-02-01 08:29
It's a great watch, like others said first 2 seasons are good but will drain you emotionally so if you're going through something not the best to be watching
pewell12026-02-01 08:30
yes
goldybowen212026-02-01 08:31
To your eternity was one of my favorite shows, but I haven't touched the new season yet.
It's definitely worth watching the first 2 seasons for sure
bythraxx2026-02-01 08:31
Is the voice actor for the intro in episode 1 Nanami from jjk?
richarditis2026-02-01 08:34
Yes he's my favourite VA. In To Your Eternity he's voice is so chilling when he narrates. And appears sometimes.
bythraxx2026-02-01 08:35
I love his voice too, I knew I recognized it. Thank you!
richarditis2026-02-01 08:40
Nw! Also he's VA for Kishibe in Chainsaw Man and Hannes in AoT.
Doctor_Freeeeeman2026-02-01 17:16
In case his peakness was in doubt, he was also Nowak from Orb.
Immediate-Worker63212026-02-01 08:32
the only reason i haven't watched it yet is because I don't wanna cry again
Whendfield1232026-02-01 08:39
Yes its really good, but season 2 and 3 is very different from season 1. Season 2 was a big step down for me.
minami_natsume2026-02-01 08:56
Totally agree. I will still recommend the anime because season 1 is great on its own. You don't need to keep watching after that. But be prepared to cry 🥺
Far_Pea_98942026-02-01 09:03
Do you mean in terms of the animation quality or in general? Also, thank you for answering, once I finish the series I’m currently watching I’ll start it
Whendfield1232026-02-01 09:35
The story takes a nosedive. Basically, if you like how season 1 story is going, you might be disappointed in s2
clone692026-02-01 12:53
The story takes a very different direction. Without spoiling too much, S1 is about meeting people and setting up the world, S2 is kinda tower defense, and S3 is an entirely different tone from both after a time skip. It's not bad, but some people didn't like those direction changes in the story.
santas_delibird2026-02-01 15:11
Episode 1 is still what I considered the best episode 1 of any anime I’ve seen. Mostly cuz it works as well as a one shot on top of setting up the key themes of the show. The gugu arc is definitely the strongest arc by far for me though.
Yukii_chan772026-02-01 12:20
Totally agree but I think its worth watching, For me, it's a unique anime; you might like it more or less, but it's an experience.
FlawlessAtheon2026-02-01 14:14
I loved season 1, it was one of my favorite anime of the year. I dropped it in the middle of season 2.
Errorby2026-02-01 18:18
agree
captainAwesomePants2026-02-01 08:42
It's well produced but is big on feels. Watch the first few episodes. If you like what you're feeling, keep going.
rookie_692026-02-01 09:38
Episode 1 is amazing, the rest of s1 is just okay. I checked out after episode 12 i think because i realized what kind of cycle its doing
Square-Dragonfruit762026-02-01 09:49
I actually liked episode 1 the least. I know that's an unpopular opinion.
Sectionwastaken2026-02-01 09:40
Only first episode and then you can flush it and you won't miss anything of importance
Square-Dragonfruit762026-02-01 09:49
Yes, it's really good
xxx_super_xxx2026-02-01 09:52
Its…ok?
LibrarianOk38642026-02-01 09:59
its not bad but it treats its male characters too disrespectfully, atleast thats the feeling I got
Mito_032026-02-01 10:00
At the very least watch ep. 1
ArisArc2026-02-01 10:01
So I watched season 3 first (11 episodes) then that made me more curious so I watched season 2. I believe it was a really good order because I heard alot of people hated bon in season 2 but I didn't particularly feel that way. Also it was kind of like watching a prequel, finding out "what happened to these characters" by watching season 2.
thehaxorman2026-02-01 10:04
you should just watch episode one. if you like it, try watching the next episode. repeat this until you complete it or decide to drop it.
A lot of people seem to like this series so there's a good chance you will too.
my opinion: watch episode one. then drop it. then choose another better anime to watch.
Prior_Implement_92792026-02-01 10:11
Peaks in the first season. Nothing that has come after is even close. Feels like the author lost the plot afterwards.
GogitoUltra2026-02-01 15:02
I dunno how closely it follows the manga but if you mean how he goes from meeting people to defending a castle then I wouldnt say the plot is lost. But thats just my opinion based on reading, I havent seen the anime (and probably wont for various reasons)
BlackReaper232026-02-02 03:39
the plot is still following the initial idea of the anime and it's great in it's own way
Twigling2026-02-01 10:21
Season 1, episode 1 is great, but then it falls off a cliff ........ it becomes goofy at times and narratively messy.
impatientlol2026-02-01 10:29
I’m up to date on the season 3 episodes and I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit. Season 3 is my favorite season so far. As others have said, season 2 can be a bit slow, but outside of that I think this show is a lot of fun to watch and I’d recommend giving it a shot.
kokko6932026-02-01 10:35
If you like dramatic stories yes
MasterQuest2026-02-01 12:14
I liked Season 1, but I couldn't get into season 2.
PhoenixAquarium2026-02-01 12:52
Season 1 is so worth it. I cried so much I didn't watch another anime again for another 3 years. So if you are going through some mental issues then I would start it when you are better.
Smoothesuede2026-02-01 13:00
Try watching it and find out for yourself
SA0902026-02-01 13:05
Only its first season was good. S2 was a huge step down and S3 was a drop from me. Has its sad moments for sure, but I don’t think it’s sadder than Kyojin.
JdhdKehev2026-02-01 13:40
Season 1 is peak, season 2 became some shonen unknown entity hunting/fighting. I didn't like s2. And i havent seen enough of s3 to talk about it.
I'll be honest, if i hadnt liked s1 as much as i did, i would never have finished s2. I was willing to still give it a chance cause of s1, and there were a few points in s2 that i did like, but s1 is once again the only reason why i finished it.
LegendaryZXT2026-02-01 13:47
Watch an episode: if you like it, keep going; if you don't, stop
lovalle_32026-02-01 14:06
i’ve only seen the first season, but the first season was on my top 10 for a while. i loved the main character and each arc was really really good. i highly recommend it. i even have the blu-ray for the first season. i totally need to catch up
IntrospectiveMT2026-02-01 14:16
It’s sadder, but there’s plenty of other emotions. It’s not a cry fest. To Your Eternity is a good show by any objective metric. It’s a matter of whether it fits your tastes
jakobsheim2026-02-01 14:29
If nothing else the first episode is a must imo
Thoraxe4742026-02-01 14:46
The first episode, absolutely. The rest of the show? Meh. Good news is the first episode works beautifully as a stand alone story
beerantula2026-02-01 14:55
I love it, I am currently watching S3 and while neither 2 or 3 are as good as 1, they are both great seasons. Just different. You should definitely watch Season 1, you won't be able to not watch the rest
Zahrena442026-02-01 15:52
If you want a mental break down yes.
Nova-Redux2026-02-01 16:52
I'm gonna say something totally different from the rest of people here - I'm a huge fan of the series, and for me it just kept getting more interesting as it went on. The current season is a VERY big change of pace from previous seasons, but I like that. It feels like progression. It feels weird and disjointed. But it's the story of an immortal being during different periods of human history, just trying to figure out life and the world. It's going to feel weird and disjointed, especially considering things that happen near the end of season 2.
Give it a watch, at worst season 2 and 3 for a lot of people are "not as good" but they're still not bad. And to your question as to whether it's sadder than Attack on Titan, I'd say they're hard to compare? They're different experiences. It definitely hits some much heavier, deeper, and more personal topics than Attack on Titan, and I'd argue it made me cry way more than Attack on Titan. AoT is more about the feeling of hopelessness and despair.
Xatu442026-02-01 18:02
Ehh, it lost me midway through season 1. Too many characters I didn't care about in the Jananda Arc plus the animation dipped pretty hard.
abandoned_idol2026-02-01 18:21
I love that anime.
That said, few of the episodes are sad. It's an anime where arcs have bittersweet endings and non-sad lead ups to those conclusions.
It's a great anime btw, a fun protagonist and very likable characters.
The_Abyss_Of_Thought2026-02-01 18:24
It’s a heavy show with heavy themes. gets you thinking and feeling. and any show that can do that, in my opinion, is worth watching. give it a shot. i highly recommend it.
KagakuNinja2026-02-01 18:31
No Sir, I don't like it... And my wife wants to watch it, so I'm stuck. I've watched the whole thing.
I don't like the absurd abilities of Fushi, or the clique of characters he has collected and resurrected over many lifetimes. The decision to move the story out of a medieval fantasy setting was IMO bad. Now we are in a world that looks like modern Japan, but with Fushi, magic and Nockers.
RogueKT2026-02-01 19:49
It’s amazing. Especially if you like tear jerkers.
Eebe2026-02-01 20:26
It's pretty consistently 6-7/10 for me. The story really changes as time goes on so if you like the 1st season, you may not like the 2nd, but I think you stand a good chance of liking at least the first part so it's worth a watch.
Kratos_and_Boy_2026-02-01 21:45
The 1st season is good. The rest not so much
kna50412026-02-01 21:47
Not sure how the anime is but the manga was good. First half was amazing. 2nd half was like taking what should have been a filler and making it the entire plot. Still good, but not great direction there.
falsefingolfin2026-02-01 22:03
watch ep 1 at least, its very good, i hated the story after the 2nd half of s1 and havent watched s3, and i heard the style's changed even more than s2
Philiperix2026-02-01 22:34
Honestly the first episode is its peak.Dropped it after 3 episodes of season 2.
koelol2026-02-02 00:31
hot take the first few episodes of s1 were peak 10/10 cinema and then it mostly went to trash
BornSeesaw98192026-02-02 00:31
Yes. First season was the best. 2nd is different, but I still enjoyed it. Third is a mixed bag. It's been a struggle to keep up with
