r/anime Karma Ranking & Discussion | Week 5 [Winter 2026]
Commentaires
cppn022026-02-01 15:13
Week 5 of Winter and despite some heavy losses we still stay above 20k for now.
Most of the karma loss came from #1 **Frieren** and #2 **JJK** who funnily enough lose almost the same amount.
**Ikoku Nikki** is still holding on to 9th and **Tamon** is now just one spot away from entering the top 15 so things are looking good.
Now if only we could get rid of people botting threads.
[](#lifeishard)
This-is_CMGRI2026-02-01 15:20
> people botting thread.
yeah why does this specific post get smashed by downvotes early?
ClemFire2026-02-01 15:22
Ironic
Charmanders_Cock2026-02-01 16:46
My guess would be those who don’t want this sub itself to have power in influencing what people may or may not watch.
You could pin that on any number of bad actors. Ranging from a greedy conglomerate wanting to monopolize marketing power, to a random otaku who’s mad their fav didn’t make the list.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 19:53
in times when it goes up too quick, it also blocks episode posts themselves from reaching top and getting more karma, which is weird too. ofc, visuals and clips often do that as well, like right now.
fuzzynavel342026-02-01 15:26
More people need to be watching Journal With Witch!
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 19:52
honestly 9th is amazing already, I'd only put sentenced to be a hero below it
mmcjawa_reborn2026-02-01 19:05
What threads are getting botted?
cppn022026-02-01 19:07
Bean Counter
mmcjawa_reborn2026-02-01 19:17
Ah...I was wondering if it was that for obvious reasons, but I also figured that there were a couple of other shows that could have gotten bot attention
dododomo2026-02-02 02:32
Why can't those people just move on with their lives instead of wasting their time with bots, etc?
I swear, they seem more obsessed with this show than the actual fans are lol (and they are doing it on MAL, etc too)
shad792026-02-01 15:15
Not much has changed in the top ten spots, as the only difference there from last week is [**Medalist S2**](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qlscu3/comment/o1gnlyc/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) entering the ranking at 10th place with its first episode this season, and a swap of places between [**Hell's Paradise S2**](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qmlssm/comment/o1mwuf1/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) (4th place) and [**Oshi no Ko S3**](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qpdqy8/comment/o29134i/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) (5th place).
Regarding the [**Hell's Paradise S2**](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qmlssm/comment/o1mwuf1/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) banner... it seems u/Abysswatcherbel opted for a much safer option instead of using one of [the scenes between Choubei and Rien ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)](https://imgchest.com/p/qe4gpexxr4j) from the latest episode xD
Also, it's a shame that [**Frieren: Beyond Journey's End S2**](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qkt8kb/comment/o199aes/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) dropped below 5k karma mark in its second episode. I really hope it'll break the 5k karma barrier again this season.

What the hell is going on this week? Every show but Gnosia had bled points, and only barely at that.
steven48692026-02-01 15:19
For JJK, it didn't have action so by default it'll lose points.
Frieren's first episode effect got over but it should get similar numbers by the end.
Ocixo2026-02-01 15:53
> For JJK, it didn’t have action so by default it’ll lose points.
Ah, so that’s it. Was already confused why its karma score was bouncing up and down this hard.
SpellOpening78522026-02-01 16:57
First 2 episodes were pretty good, but not new due to the (shit recap) movie, then 3 was fully exposition, 4 had some insane action, and then this week's episode felt a fair bit weaker again.
I'm kinda surprised that its in 2nd still if anything.
tripleaamin2026-02-01 15:26
Premier and final episodes usually have the most karma unless it's a hype episode. Like the Maki episode for JJK for example.
Gnosia is the only one that is a consecutive cour show.
duo99dusk2026-02-01 19:24
Because it's our cute lil' Gnosia ඞ
steven48692026-02-01 15:18
My favorite, Medalist the Idol show is back /s
Sooner or later looks like Sentenced to be Hero will surpass Oshi no Ko in these rankings.
Arkam_slayer662026-02-01 15:18
Great to see frieren at the top, shiboyuki banner is chefs kiss, chained soldier season 2 is oof couldve had a different banner and the banner for golden kamuy w the guy have his foot in his nose is something.

Golden Kamuy top 15?! Lets go! Also nice to see other animes besides the big ones this season getting more attention. Death Games was a surprise one for me. Never seen an anime like this before.

How’s this season of golden kamuy? It’s one of my favorite of all time but haven’t started the final season yet

woah, Fate/Strange Fake in top 3
hope new folks start to get into Fate after watching this as their introduction
(I know Fate fans are adamant about watch orders, but this Strange Fake is fine to watch for beginners)
steven48692026-02-01 15:20
I think it was in top-3 last week as well.
Ebo872026-02-01 16:31
Yes it was, this is now 2 weeks in a row in 3rd place. Definitely seems to emerge as the overall winner in the battle for 3rd, behind the two juggernauts.
brown_man_bob2026-02-01 15:20
Is Strange Fake worth watching when compared to Stay Night?
CerberusZX2026-02-01 15:23
I personally consider it to be far more fun. It's an ensemble series written by Narita, after all.

Acrobatic_Pumpkin9672026-02-01 16:24
As much as I enjoy the original material, I think Strange/Fake is shaping up to be the most enjoyable of the fate anime adaptations.

Don't let u/SnabDedraterEdave see this.
ball_throwerAFK2026-02-01 15:38
I’m sorry but i still think Strange fake is a pretty awful way to get into Fate. I think Fate zero then Strange fake would still be an infinitely better way to enjoy it.
While strange fake does lay the ground rules for holy grail war it’s balls to the walls crazy, while Zero is somewhat much easier to understand
ModieOfTheEast2026-02-01 15:59
As someone not very familiar with Fate, I still think watching UBW first should be the main proposition. Yes, Zero is technically a prequel but it's so heavy on exposition early on that it's really hard to get into. UBW has a way more natural way of introducing the world and its rules. Sure, it's because Shirou is a fish out of water in a sense, so it's not super original in how it's done, but it really helps if you want to get into the franchise I feel.
atropicalpenguin2026-02-01 16:35
Plus Zero spoils everything in Stay Night.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 19:59
they spoil each other, that's just the nature of prequels released after sequels. though tbf not *everything* is spoiled about FSN, especially one of the big reveals of UBW.
BosuW2026-02-01 18:38
Zero has a lot of exposition in the first episode but the whole rest of the show is an excellent way to actually _experience_ what a base Holy Grail war is like, which makes getting into the rest of the increasingly weird ones much easier.
UBW for it's part really bored me at first. I wouldn't be a Fate fan today if I had started with it instead of Zero.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 20:00
yeah they both have different strengths as starting points - I describe Zero as more of an ensemble show that's grittier/more seinen-coded, and UBW as more of a shounen-vibe. not all will work the same for everybody.
atropicalpenguin2026-02-01 16:25
Complains about people starting with Strange Fake then suggests people to watch Zero first then jump to Strange Fake. Either people start with this because FOMO, or do it the proper way r/fatestaynight suggests. The thing with Stange Fake is that it includes references to every fucking TM work, so if someone wants to understand everything, they need to even go watch one of the early segments of Hollow Ataraxia.
ball_throwerAFK2026-02-01 16:32
I’m saying if you have to start with something then atleast watch Fate Zero, if I were really stingy I would say UBW and fate obviously.
wloff2026-02-01 20:38
Strange Fake is not a great way to get *into Fate*, if that's your goal.
But if someone just wants to check out the new hype show and is not necessarily interested into getting into the whole huge franchise, it's totally fine to just jump into Strange Fake and enjoy it for what it is. (Might just want to google what a Holy Grail War even is or something, since the show doesn't bother explaining those base ideas.)
It's also a spin-off so far detached from the original story that it shouldn't spoil anything major, in case they get hooked and want to get into Fate proper.
Various_Length_49052026-02-01 15:27
FSF and Jigo will compete for Top 3 every week I think
ball_throwerAFK2026-02-01 15:42
I would’ve said Oshi no ko too, but Fate is just too strong i guess
Various_Length_49052026-02-01 15:54
ONK and STBH will remain close most likely
mmcjawa_reborn2026-02-01 19:12
ONK still has to deal with the anchor that is poor fan reception of the ending of the source material.
Ocixo2026-02-01 16:01
My honest advice to newcomers: don’t worry about all the references and just go enjoy Fate/Strange Fake for what it is. The mechanics of this holy grail war should become gradually clear through character conversations.
They can always come back later to Fate/Zero and/or Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files to learn about the most important background information.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 19:57
> but this Strange Fake is fine to watch for beginners
just stay far away from the episode threads if you mind spoilers for Fate Stay Night or Fate Zero (or honestly any other Fate or Type-Moon work). it's an absolute minefield of spoilers
lordposedyon2026-02-01 15:19

Major_R_Soul2026-02-01 15:51
You should give the LNs a try. They're a fun read. The show also makes some characters feel like they lack a little depth compared to the novels.
This-is_CMGRI2026-02-01 15:21
*Polar Opposites* stay in the 4-digit marker, makes me super happy. Hope y'all keep it that way.
tripleaamin2026-02-01 15:50
It's the type of show that will really do well here.
* Great animation
* Wholesome RomCom
* No Harem Elements. (Only 100 GFs & Quints does well here, and the former is a big parody of the genre & Quints is just massive in general.)
* Great adaptation, as Lapin Track is one of the best studios right now.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 19:56
tbh harem does fine when it's top quality, there's just a lot of slop. Like OnK definitely has it's harem **elements** and is clearly doing well
tripleaamin2026-02-01 20:26
The harem elements in Onk are very small and reason people are watching are more for the murder mystery & the themes about the entertainment industry.
So that’s not a good example. Like let’s say Mayonaka Heart tune which is a good execution on the genre.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 20:30
maybe to you, but i see plenty of ppl engaging in the waifu wars of OnK
cppn022026-02-01 21:19
> but i see plenty of ppl engaging in the waifu wars of OnK
I don't think that's neccessarily a sign people are in it for the harem. It's just a bonus.
Even freaking AoT had waifu wars.

One thing I have noticed is that my thread on [Love Through a Prism](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1ql5psk/whats_everybodys_thoughts_on_love_through_a_prism/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) is still getting daily comments. Perhaps this, tied with its high MAL score, is an indicator that this show did pretty solidly, given it's a batch release. Obviously not near the traction of Cosmic Princess Kaguya, but that shouldn't be a surprise since that was a movie drop.
As an LN reader of "Sentenced to Be a Hero" the latest episode might be my favorite so far. A slowdown episode, but delivering on more of the interactions with the cast. This adaptation has been so ideal and on point I can't ask for more.
Scum of the Brave might not have the production quality of the author's other series that I mentioned above. But it has a certain charm that works really well.
Also, yesterday's Gnosia was a big one. It's really getting both exciting and intriguing to see where it is going.
Ocixo2026-02-01 15:49
> tied with its high MAL score
Wow, I did not expect the show to currently have a 8.56 on MAL. That’s quite high! If I find some time in the coming week, I probably should get started on Love Through a Prism huh.
This has definitely been a good season for Netflix in terms of reviews (going by the MAL scores):
- 100 Meters: 8.35
- Cosmic Princess Kaguya: 8.51
- Love Through a Prism: 8.56
tripleaamin2026-02-01 15:56
I tried not looking up the score until I finished because last year I watched Moonrise, it started in the mid-6s, and I was like, WTF, I like it so much at the start. Then I finished it and was like, Oh, I get it.
But yeah, great start for Netflix. Especially for Prism, because it seems that is the one they are the main producers of, according to Anilist.
Excluding SxF it feels like almost all of Wit's shows end up on Netflix. I wonder if we see that for Bookworm S4.
Ocixo2026-02-01 16:16
You’ll obviously have to take most MAL scores with a *scoop* of salt, but an original anime like this getting such a positive reception is usually a good sign.
> I wonder if we see that for Bookworm S4.
I don’t believe so, since the other seasons are all on CR. They could potentially do dual-license deal with the show airing both on CR *and* Netflix (in the West). Suppose that we’ll have to look out for Netflix acquiring the previous anime seasons of the series.
I certainly would not be surprised if Netflix acquired the rights to Agents of the Four Seasons.
tripleaamin2026-02-01 16:23
The older seasons being on Crunchyroll definitely would make it weird if ONLY S1-S3 were available on there. It would be an Oshi no Ko situation where, unless you are caught up. Legally speaking, HiDive is where you still have to go to watch the older seasons.
Anime original and manga scores are where MAL gives you a decent idea since everyone is going in blind. Anime adaptations of manga get very skewed. Frieren S2 being #1 on its debut episode is kind of a good example because while the show is great. It is hard to take that seriously.
Ocixo2026-02-01 16:29
> Legally speaking, HiDive is where you still have to go to watch the older seasons.
Fortunately, I can easily watch the older seasons of Oshi no Ko (and others) on Netflix since a little while ago. But the legal situation was honestly sad for some time with HiDive having left continental Europe.
LakerBlue2026-02-01 20:16
Never heard “scoop” of salt before lol
JJVM992026-02-01 16:28
rn im having the opposite reaction to what you described with Moonrise with Love Through a Prism. I have watched 3 or 4 episodes and it didn’t connect with me and im on a break from it but seeing the high mal score makes me want to give it a second chance soon to see what I am missing out. If I haven’t connected at the start is it a sign of what I will be feeling for the rest of the episodes or should I still give it more episodes to see if I change my mind?
tripleaamin2026-02-01 16:47
Honestly, it is a show I was hooked on from the start. I feel if you weren't hooked on the more visual arts elements the show goes for, I don't feel the show would be worth it.
Like, I wouldn't recommend it if you only cared for the romance, for example.
Queue_Jumping_Quack2026-02-01 15:55
Both Prism Rondo and Cosmic Princess Kaguya were really great surprises from Netflix and I'm glad that the fan response here and places like MAL reflects that.
I didn't even realize that Lili in Prism was voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki... She has three varied lead roles (at least!) this season: Frieren, Lili, and Charlie in Darwin Incident.
tripleaamin2026-02-01 15:57
I haven't watched Darwin, but I have read it. Highly expect, as usual, her voice is distinct in each role. Her voice range is inane.
ExtremelyAsianCactus2026-02-01 16:21
I know Love Through a Prism got batch released but I’m restricting myself to one episode a week and so far it’s been super charming, Polar Opposites is still my preferred romance this season but I appreciate having two completely different vibes as someone who is trying to watch more romances
tripleaamin2026-02-01 16:24
Prism is definitely much more thematic with its romance, while Polar Opposites is more straight and simple with great execution.
Both styles are great.
GokaiRed642026-02-01 16:52
Is Love Through a Prism good?
Haven't been able to watch that nor Kaguya due to the amount of anime to watch this season.
tripleaamin2026-02-01 17:02
If you like thematic romance stories, it's definitely worth a watch.
LakerBlue2026-02-01 20:15
Sentenced to be a Hero had a lot of great lore revelations so I also enjoyed it. Not more than ep1 but on the same level.
Scum of the Brave is easily the worst of the 7 shows I’m assuming so far but I agree that’s it charming and cute in a way that exceeds its quality.
maliwanag07122026-02-01 15:25
Frieren and JJK still strong even with that large Ep 2 karma drop. I wonder if their karma will recover after some time or if ever there's an upcoming hype episode.
You and I are Polar Opposites is still strong even if it is airing on a Sunday Japanese afternoon, so it takes its time to gain karma over the course of the day, and so far its lead over Shiboyugi is significant.
Falsus2026-02-01 17:05
First episode will always high initial karma for sequels. Then it will go down. It will go up again for the hype episodes and the finale.
Various_Length_49052026-02-01 15:25
We're barely above the 20K mark now. I think next week it'll go down or let's see.

LakerBlue2026-02-01 20:21
Started watching this week and I agree. I’ve only seen 3 episodes but I think this maybe the sleeper show of the season. The teen heroine feels like a good depiction of a confused, lost teen and her auntie feels like a nicely written, asocial semi-gloomy person. I also enjoy the element of the Asa basically having her world expanded by how different her aunt is as a maternal figure vs her mom.
ykiigor12026-02-01 15:25

Comprehensive_Dog6512026-02-01 15:27
I'm only watching 2 seasonals for winter, but both of them have been unbelievably good to me. Polar Opposities and Oshi no KO, what have I done to deserve this blessing 😭
On the other hand, Oshi no Ko seems to be sliping by half with every season, from averaging 6k in s1, to 3k in s2 and now 1.5k in s3
Organic-Habit-30862026-02-01 15:28
Why did karma here never recover from the reddit blackouts? I remember when JJK S1 was airing and it was hitting 7-8K pretty regularly in the 2nd cour. Of course that was during Winter 2021 but even after (and before) that there were still some big numbers.

~~***Isekai Office Worker: The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter***'s karma deserves to be adjusted because it is getting unfairly downvote botted. I just don't know how the adjustment got it to 239 karma. The [thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qofgna/isekai_no_sata_wa_shachiku_shidai_isekai_office/) (after 4 days and not 48 hours) is currently at 94 karma with a 60% upvote ratio. Even if you give this the full 100% upvote ratio, it should be around the 150s.~~
Never mind. Thanks /u/Komarist for teaching me how reddit karma math works.
Komarist2026-02-01 15:43
Not how math works. If it was 94 upvotes and ~60 downvotes, that's a 60% upvote ratio that would show as 34 upvotes, not 94.
Need to use Current_Karma * Upvote_Ratio / (2 * Upvote_Ratio - 1)
IceAnt5732026-02-01 16:12
Oh okay. Let's see...
So using this example that would mean karma after 4 days would be (94 * 0.6)/([2 * 0.6] -1) and get it around 282 karma.
___
Assuming the upvote ratio was still around 60% 2 days ago, that would have been something like (80 * 0.6)/([2 * 0.6] - 1) ≈ 239 karma.
Nikita23372026-02-01 15:31
It makes me happy to see Gnosia return to the left side. I'd imagine yesterday's episode will keep the momentum, it was a crazy one.
ModieOfTheEast2026-02-01 19:32
I am really not sure why people liked that twist. It opens so many holes. [Latest Gnosia Episode]>!If the idea is that Yuri is always the first one to be attacked which is why the "bug" can take his place, how come the Gnosia aren't wondering how he survived? They should be flabbergasted every time. And that's not even including the time line where Yuri is a Gnosia himself. He shouldn't be attacked in the first place. This only works if the gods make only the bug a Gnosia in that timeline in which case again, why aren't the other Gnosias wondering that he not only survived but is suddenly a Gnosia?!<
MikaelJ0m5v1k1ng2026-02-01 15:31
Frieren stays on Top 1 and so does Jujutsu Kaisen on 2. As someone who watched Takt op. Destiny, I love seeing both Madhouse and Mappa on top of each other.

I remember it being heavily criticized for the timing of its fanservice back then. If anything, it's surprising to see it managed to make the top 15 now.

I feel like FF and Black Clover are two shounens that the fanbases have a more perceived popularity than what they actually are.
Time_Fracture2026-02-01 15:33
**Mayonaka Heart Tune**'s first time in the right chart I believe? 200 karma and 7 spot drop is quite concerning, especially when **Polar Opposites** still on the top 10 and holding thrice more karma.
Nice to see **Tojima**, **Okiraku**, and **Champignon Witch** returning to the top 30, but we lost **Invisible Man** as a result.
cppn022026-02-01 15:55
Invisible Man missed out by just one spot.

I'm surprised by how much I'm loving Hippolyta's design. She's beautiful.
Also, is Shiboyuugi as soul crushing as the first episode? I feel like I need some good tranquil long moment to continue watching it.
oops_i_made_a_typi2026-02-01 20:04
[Shiboyugi vibes up to ep 4]>!I would say it's not as soul crushing, but I mean the premise is still a death game between cute anime girls, it's not like it's transitioning to a slice of life. It does have lots of tranquil moments though, but with that underlying tension the whole time.!<
LakerBlue2026-02-01 20:31
Not as soul crushing but every bit as tense.
YonSaiSucks2026-02-01 15:43
Weird flex lol. All frieren had this week was her crying faces
atropicalpenguin2026-02-01 15:47
I thought Oshi no Ko would do better.
LegoMyEggo82026-02-01 15:47
I'm so happy to see the top 4 that are above OshiNoKo. Such gifted series that deserve it over that slop
MillyMan1052026-02-01 15:48
The top 7 seem to be the standouts this season, I've only seen Frieren, JJK, Hells paradise and Sentenced to be a hero so I can attest to how impressed I am by all of them.
I'm curious about Oshi no ko (only seen s1), fate and polar opposites I'll get to watching them.
Queue_Jumping_Quack2026-02-01 15:50
We finally have Golden Kamuy breaking into Top 15, but the price is having to see Trigun fall out of it into 17th place.
The struggle for #1 place is between Frieren and JJK this season, and I don't see Fate rising to challenge those two juggernauts.
The next four anime all seem to hit the 2000 - 1500 range now consistently, so that will be the battle for #3 rank. Fate currently seems fairly comfortably in the lead there, while I am disappointed in the numbers Oshi no Ko is getting in comparison to the other four; I think it has had a good start and deserves to be in the 2000+ range at least.
Then there's the 1200 - 800 range or so, for the #7 rank. I wrote last week that it looked like Ikoku Nikki was gaining steam while Polar Opposites was losing it, but it looks like the ranks stabilized now and Medallist threw it hat in the ring here (though it will remain to be seen if it can sustain the karma levels weekly or sink to the below tier).
The next tier is fighting to stay in the top 15, and depending on the week the karma needed seems to be around 490 to 420. I think this set of series will be the one changing the most week to week, with some moving up from the top 30 and some (like poor Trigun) sinking to the right side into top 30.
The last "tier" is the right side, where you need to get around 250 karma to confidently keep from falling off the chart completely.
Nachtwandler_FS2026-02-01 16:23
Angry manga readers dragging OnK down?
Queue_Jumping_Quack2026-02-01 16:29
That's my hunch, but perhaps it is also because the season it still in "set up" phase without big "wham" moments that create a buzz online. Perhaps we will see an uptick in karma once Ruby's schemes start really picking up speed (this is speculation BTW, I'm an anime only for OnK).

Drayenn2026-02-01 16:09
Im glad people like Frieren, its a decent show, but i dont see how its that much higher than other shows this seasons. Its just cozy episodic episodes at this point.
Ok-Cod52542026-02-01 16:14
>Its just cozy episodic episodes at this point.
Well that's exact what some people like about it for that aspect.
It doesn't have to be about hype action scenes or an elaborate plot. It can just be about the small, simple moments between the cast of characters, and that can be enough for some people to enjoy.
Drayenn2026-02-01 16:19
Im not saying that. Dangers in my heart is one of my favorite anime and its a romcom. I just feel like Frieren s2 is lacking something to justify its top spot
Ok-Cod52542026-02-01 16:23
>Dangers in my heart
Well that has more intensity and consistent tension in the romantic aspect as a romance genre series in particular. Frieren is more in a slice of life mode.
>I just feel like Frieren s2 is lacking something to justify its top spot
Well this list is just a metric of the subreddit audience, but you don't need to use it to validate your specific preferences.

Nice to see Medalist ranking strong fresh out the gate.
Nearly every show lost karma this week, but **Tamon's B-Side** only lost one karma, and moved up five spots! It's now only a single spot away from the top 15. Treat yourself to some great Saori Hayami voice acting and hilarious romantic comedy by picking it up today.
And I want to know what the **Bean Counter** downvote brigade hopes to accomplish. You're not keeping it off the karma charts and the discussion threads have had plenty of comments. Maybe just give it up this week, eh? Kondo is busy enough without this bullshit on top of everything else.
BaytaCosmico2026-02-01 18:03

People are saying Journal with Witch needs to be seen by more people and it’s true but that a josei adaptation is making top ten in karma here is already nuts, and super cool. Speaks to how it transcends normal genre interest. Imo I think there’s an open audience for more grounded series that anime rarely caters to except with iyashikei type shows. But I do also think the really strong direction choices are helping Journal with Witch stand out. It doesn’t have super amazing animation but arguably it very much doesn’t need that, and what it does have is impeccable editing, shit framing, and character acting. It is “cinematic” but being animated allows for a more impressionistic approach. Also tbh live action teenager acting is really hit or miss at the best of times. I think Asa fundamentally works better animated, and also the animation does a very good job of translating the manga’s unique art style.
IceAnt5732026-02-01 20:12
Week 5 of Winter 2026 has the final big show of the season premiere and while 20,801 karma is -5972 karma from last week, that's still over 20k and massively better than much of 2025's weekly karma. The Top 10 karma shows of the season are really exerting their popularity because most of them stayed in the same place they did last week.
___
**Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End S2** stays at 1st with 4699 karma which is -2312 karma from last week. 1124 comments is -76 comments from last week, 1st in most comments for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.24. MAL score is 9.27 which is -0.03 from last week. 2/2 in 1st Places even if this was the standard Ep. 2 karma drop. We got introduced to the Hero of the South and there was a fight with a Sword Demon in this episode too.
**JUJUTSU KAISEN: The Culling Game Part 1** stays at 2nd with 2840 karma which is -2353 karma from last week. 804 comments is -939 comments from last week, 3rd most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.28. MAL score is 8.64 which is -0.01 from last week. Yeah, there was going to be a karma drop like this compared to the high of last week's episode but that rotoscoped scene with Yūji and Hakari though.
**Fate/strange Fake** stays at 3rd with 1985 karma which is -177 karma from last week. 1026 comments is +109 comments from last week, 2nd most for the week, and an incredibly strong comment to karma ratio of 0.52. MAL score is 8.51 which is +0.02 from last week. Comments are up for a really loaded episode featuring a fight between Gilgamesh, Alcides, and Hippolyta, name reveals, and Ayaka and Saber hanging out at some nightclub listening to a live performance.
**Hell’s Paradise S2** moves up +1 spot to 4th with 1781 karma which is -88 karma from last week. 281 comments is +18 comments from last week, 8th most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.16. MAL score is 8.18 which is +0.01 from last week. Karma is retained pretty well and comments and MAL score are even up too for this episode which is adding to the counter of shows this season that have healing sex.
**【Oshi no Ko】S3** moves down -1 spot to 5th with 1629 karma which is -292 karma from last week. 500 comments is +71 comments from last week, 4th most for the week, and a strong comment to karma ratio of 0.31. MAL score is 8.43 which is -0.02 from last week. That's a pretty sizable decrease and actually knocked it down to 5th, but I like Mastermind Ruby orchestrating a whole ordeal to get production people in her debt for saving a show. A comment boost for this episode gets it to an even 500 and we got to see Abiko again.
**Sentenced to Be a Hero** stays at 6th with 1479 karma which is -209 karma from last week. 369 comments is -15 comments from last week, 6th most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.25. MAL score is 8.31 which is -0.07 from last week. Also a decent chunk of karma gone, but comments are mostly retained. A -0.07 to the MAL score also hurts a little, but I enjoyed learning about Venetim bullshitting his way to the truth and getting punished for telling that truth.
**You and I Are Polar Opposites** stays at 7th with 1169 karma which is -56 karma from last week. 336 comments is +40 comments from last week, 7th most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.29. MAL score is 8.12 which is +0.02 from last week. The last show above 1k karma and karma is mostly maintained with this episode focused on the supporting characters. I'm already endeared to Azuma and Taira.
**SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table** stays at 8th with 878 karma which is -147 karma from last week. 465 comments is +141 comments from last week, 5th most for the week, and an incredibly strong comment to karma ratio of 0.53. MAL score is 7.82 which is -0.05 from last week. The end of this 10th Game really shot up the engagement (Yuki officially has a rival now! That she finds cute!) with a good amount of it figuring out how this final vote went down. Disappointed in that karma decrease though.
**Journal with Witch** stays at 9th with 818 karma which is -143 karma from last week. 223 comments is -29 comments from last week, 10th most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.27. MAL score is 8.34 which is +0.11 from last week. That last statement I made about *SHIBOYUGI* applies here too. Makio's complicated feelings for her sister are getting even more complicated with this new information she's learning about her, but she's still trying her best to comfort and be an actual guardian for Asa even if she is saying things that are better off not being said in the moment.
**Medalist S2** debuts at 10th with 797 karma. 193 comments is 15th most for the week and has a comment to karma ratio of 0.24. MAL score starts off at 8.13. Late in the season, but it's finally here and we're starting off this next stage by introducing a bunch of new characters and Inori channeling Tsukasa for her first impression on these girls. Meanwhile, Hikaru is doing more intense training in Russia. I'd like to credit Ep. 1 of S2 for keeping this week just above 20k. 797 karma is almost the 801 in 20,801.
**Fire Force S3 Part 2** moves down -1 spot to 11th with 629 karma which is -119 karma from last week. 125 comments is -15 comments from last week, 21st most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.20. MAL score is 7.70 which is the same as last week.
**Chained Soldier S2** moves down -1 spot to 12th with 619 karma which is -57 karma from last week. 123 comments is +25 comments from last week, 23rd most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.20. MAL score is 7.50 which is the same as last week. Comments recovered a little after not even being above 100 last week. All for some Ren pet play and set up for the next arc featuring the Azuma's.
**My Hero Academia: Vigilantes S2** moves down -1 spot to 13th with 592 karma which is -49 karma from last week. 154 comments is +51 comments from last week, 16th most for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.26. MAL score is 7.38 which is -0.03 from last week.
**GNOSIA** moves up +3 spots to 14th with 468 karma which is +3 karma from last week. 210 comments is +33 comments from last week, 13th most for the week, and a very strong comment to karma ratio of 0.45. MAL score is 7.50 which is +0.04 from 4 weeks ago (the last time it was ranked Top 15 or higher). Given the right circumstances (you know what they are), Raqio can really cook but Yuuri still clutched it out. Really good two-part game and it gets rewarded with being in the left side again.
**Golden Kamuy: Final Chapter** moves up +1 spot to 15th with 418 karma which is -50 karma from last week. 79 comments is -21 comments from last week, does not make Top 30 in comments for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.19. MAL score check-in is 8.22. First time on the left side when it was so close last week. That episode last week was the bigger one, but this one was still intense. Honor that wish, Shiraishi.
**Tamon’s B-Side** rises +5 spots to 16th with 406 karma which is -1 karma from last week. 135 comments is +20 comments from last week, 18th most for the week, and a strong comment to karma ratio of 0.33. The show might climb back to the Top 15? This was a more dramatic than funny episode, but that helps get an engagement boost. Very sweet of Utage to prepare for both results even if she really badly wanted the status quo to be maintained.
**The Holy Grail of Eris** moves up +2 spots to 18th with 377 karma which is -31 karma from last week. 134 comments is +12 comments from last week, 19th most for the week, and a strong comment to karma ratio of 0.36. This is a lot of set-up and moving parts which does boost comments, but there might be too much moving parts with all of these characters and mysteries.
**To Your Eternity S3** returns at 19th with 377 karma which is +84 karma from 2 weeks ago. 96 comments is -3 comments from 2 weeks ago, does not make Top 30 in comments for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.25. Tied in karma, but lost out on the comment tiebreaker which is a shame since it was a strong episode.
**Tune In to the Midnight Heart** drops -7 spots to 20th with 376 karma which is -205 karma from last week. 97 comments is -38 comments from last week, does not make Top 30 in comments for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.26. Ouch. This is the roughest episode yet animation wise and the numbers are really showing it by dropping this much. And it's a shame it's on a Shinobu-focused episode too since I like her.
**Roll Over and Die** moves up +1 spot to 21st with 346 karma which is -24 karma from last week. 214 comments is -3 comments from last week, 11th most for the week, and an incredibly strong comment to karma ratio of 0.62. More lost limbs for Flum, but also *gasp*. The church was responsible and the evil ones all along. We might be entering into a partnership with demons now. Also [title drop](https://i.imgur.com/cVhkDh1.jpeg).
**’Tis Time for Torture, Princess S2** moves up +1 spot to 22nd with 300 karma which is -37 karma from last week. 104 comments is +16 comments from last week, 28th most for the week, and a strong comment to karma ratio of 0.35.

Part 2 of the Recap:
___
**Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary** moves up +1 spot to 24th with 257 karma which is -39 karma from last week. 107 comments is +3 comments from last week, 27th most for the week, and a very strong comment to karma ratio of 0.42. Mel-sensei didn't deserve this even if she wasn't a great kindergarten teacher. And besides unnerving, we also get sad in the form of Mob's story.
**Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider** rises +5 spots to 26th with 245 karma which is -26 karma from last week. 87 comments is -39 comments from last week, does not make Top 30 in comments for the week, and a strong comment to karma ratio of 0.36. Back in Top 30 despite the numbers being down.
**Champignon Witch** rises +5 spots to 27th with 244 karma which is -25 karma from last week. 40 comments is -34 comments from last week, does not make Top 30 in comments for the week, and a comment to karma ratio of 0.16. Sad episode gets this show back into the Top 30. I'll miss Dorothy.
**Wash It All Away** moves down -5 spots to 29th with 240 karma which is -68 karma from last week. 99 comments is -46 comments from last week, 30th most for the week, and a very strong comment to karma ratio of 0.41. Hovering in the 30 area, but still Top 30. What I'm wondering the most is seeing where this Kyu attraction to Kinme is going to go.
**Isekai Office Worker: The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter** stays at 30th with 239 karma which is -10 karma from last week. 209 comments is the same amount as last week, 14th most for the week, and a ridiculously strong comment to karma ratio of 0.87. Engagement is consistent and Seiichiro has the Prime Minister's attention for how efficient he is at accounting and other bureaucratic duties. Maybe this might get Aresh's jealousy to push him to say what his honest feelings are for Seiichiro.
____
**Favorite banner of the week**: *【Oshi no Ko】S3*. Ruby looks both cute and twisted with the dark star eye and that smile. 2nd would be *Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End S2* for that cool orbital strike of a Zoltraak. 3rd is *Chained Soldier S2*. It's like Ren is looking at some walking garbage.
Frostbitten_Moose2026-02-01 20:16
Oh hey, Tojima made the cut! That's always a happy day, and I'm hoping it'll stay there. And Frieren, even with her drop, is still in a good spot.
Less pleased to see Scum of the Brave not make it, but I kinda get that it may be more of a personal taste thing given the animation quality. I can accept it not being on unlike the eternal shame of Bravern not making it.
I'll also admit that while I'm not going to watch the show, it's not for me, I am entertained by the drama over the ranking of Bean Counter. The solution is clever and I'm curious to see if it works.

Also entering into the Top 10 for the first time at 10th is **Journal with Witch** which makes for 3 Shōjosei shows in this week's Anime Trending Top 10. On Week #2, it was 14th so this is a +4 increase from last week.
Commentaires
Most of the karma loss came from #1 **Frieren** and #2 **JJK** who funnily enough lose almost the same amount.
**Ikoku Nikki** is still holding on to 9th and **Tamon** is now just one spot away from entering the top 15 so things are looking good.
Now if only we could get rid of people botting threads.
[](#lifeishard)
yeah why does this specific post get smashed by downvotes early?
You could pin that on any number of bad actors. Ranging from a greedy conglomerate wanting to monopolize marketing power, to a random otaku who’s mad their fav didn’t make the list.
I swear, they seem more obsessed with this show than the actual fans are lol (and they are doing it on MAL, etc too)
Regarding the [**Hell's Paradise S2**](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qmlssm/comment/o1mwuf1/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) banner... it seems u/Abysswatcherbel opted for a much safer option instead of using one of [the scenes between Choubei and Rien ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)](https://imgchest.com/p/qe4gpexxr4j) from the latest episode xD
Also, it's a shame that [**Frieren: Beyond Journey's End S2**](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qkt8kb/comment/o199aes/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) dropped below 5k karma mark in its second episode. I really hope it'll break the 5k karma barrier again this season.

Frieren's first episode effect got over but it should get similar numbers by the end.
Ah, so that’s it. Was already confused why its karma score was bouncing up and down this hard.
I'm kinda surprised that its in 2nd still if anything.
Gnosia is the only one that is a consecutive cour show.
Sooner or later looks like Sentenced to be Hero will surpass Oshi no Ko in these rankings.
hope new folks start to get into Fate after watching this as their introduction
(I know Fate fans are adamant about watch orders, but this Strange Fake is fine to watch for beginners)

Don't let u/SnabDedraterEdave see this.
While strange fake does lay the ground rules for holy grail war it’s balls to the walls crazy, while Zero is somewhat much easier to understand
UBW for it's part really bored me at first. I wouldn't be a Fate fan today if I had started with it instead of Zero.
They can always come back later to Fate/Zero and/or Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files to learn about the most important background information.
just stay far away from the episode threads if you mind spoilers for Fate Stay Night or Fate Zero (or honestly any other Fate or Type-Moon work). it's an absolute minefield of spoilers
* Great animation
* Wholesome RomCom
* No Harem Elements. (Only 100 GFs & Quints does well here, and the former is a big parody of the genre & Quints is just massive in general.)
* Great adaptation, as Lapin Track is one of the best studios right now.
So that’s not a good example. Like let’s say Mayonaka Heart tune which is a good execution on the genre.
I don't think that's neccessarily a sign people are in it for the harem. It's just a bonus.
Even freaking AoT had waifu wars.
But yeah, great start for Netflix. Especially for Prism, because it seems that is the one they are the main producers of, according to Anilist.
Excluding SxF it feels like almost all of Wit's shows end up on Netflix. I wonder if we see that for Bookworm S4.
Anime original and manga scores are where MAL gives you a decent idea since everyone is going in blind. Anime adaptations of manga get very skewed. Frieren S2 being #1 on its debut episode is kind of a good example because while the show is great. It is hard to take that seriously.
Fortunately, I can easily watch the older seasons of Oshi no Ko (and others) on Netflix since a little while ago. But the legal situation was honestly sad for some time with HiDive having left continental Europe.
Like, I wouldn't recommend it if you only cared for the romance, for example.
I didn't even realize that Lili in Prism was voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki... She has three varied lead roles (at least!) this season: Frieren, Lili, and Charlie in Darwin Incident.
Both styles are great.
Haven't been able to watch that nor Kaguya due to the amount of anime to watch this season.
Scum of the Brave is easily the worst of the 7 shows I’m assuming so far but I agree that’s it charming and cute in a way that exceeds its quality.
You and I are Polar Opposites is still strong even if it is airing on a Sunday Japanese afternoon, so it takes its time to gain karma over the course of the day, and so far its lead over Shiboyugi is significant.
On the other hand, Oshi no Ko seems to be sliping by half with every season, from averaging 6k in s1, to 3k in s2 and now 1.5k in s3
Never mind. Thanks /u/Komarist for teaching me how reddit karma math works.
Need to use Current_Karma * Upvote_Ratio / (2 * Upvote_Ratio - 1)
So using this example that would mean karma after 4 days would be (94 * 0.6)/([2 * 0.6] -1) and get it around 282 karma.
___
Assuming the upvote ratio was still around 60% 2 days ago, that would have been something like (80 * 0.6)/([2 * 0.6] - 1) ≈ 239 karma.
Nice to see **Tojima**, **Okiraku**, and **Champignon Witch** returning to the top 30, but we lost **Invisible Man** as a result.
[](#punch)
Also, is Shiboyuugi as soul crushing as the first episode? I feel like I need some good tranquil long moment to continue watching it.
I'm curious about Oshi no ko (only seen s1), fate and polar opposites I'll get to watching them.
Well that's exact what some people like about it for that aspect.
It doesn't have to be about hype action scenes or an elaborate plot. It can just be about the small, simple moments between the cast of characters, and that can be enough for some people to enjoy.
Gnosia rising is awesome too!
Also, Golden Kamuy in the top 15!

And I want to know what the **Bean Counter** downvote brigade hopes to accomplish. You're not keeping it off the karma charts and the discussion threads have had plenty of comments. Maybe just give it up this week, eh? Kondo is busy enough without this bullshit on top of everything else.
Glad to see Ikoku Nikki holding strong. AOTS right there in a crazy good season.
