Can anyone recommend anime where cast is mainly adults?

The last anime I finished was The Apothecary Diaries that really surprised me how good it was. I haven't found an anime that stands out for me so I am looking for anime thats has adult cast. Looking for genres like comedy(I really enjoy those), Sci-fi, romance, mystery, action, drama. I can't do isekai or get into isekai anime as much as I used to so that's a no. And I don't mind if it's vanilla slice of life(that has become something I am enjoying more). And can't do anime that's still link to HS or is technically HS theme(feel like I have seen mostly those settings) but yeah. Just an adult cast type of anime.

Hi Aggressive-Tackle774, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Aging myself a little but a good place to start is looking for animes that released pre-2010s. But here are a few: Cowboy Bebop, Monster, Samurai Champloo, Stein’s Gate, Death Parade, Darker Than Black, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Hellsing Ultimate, Berserk

Aggressive-Tackle7742026-02-01 16:22

I definitely loved Samurai Champloo. The OST is a banger.

Gamer_Complainer2026-02-01 16:36

Soundtrack absolutely slaps. Bebop’s is great too!

A Sign of Affection, a romance anime which is set in college. I watched it recently and really enjoyed it.

Been a min since I watched a romance anime. Thank you.

Kotaro lives alone. The main cast is all adults except for the MC.

Maybe Comic Party? Most of the main cast were adults, iirc, but it's pretty lowbrow if I'm being honest.

Space Brothers has everything: science, comedy, a bit of romance and The Feels(TM). The MC is very relatable, still chasing for his dream despite having a late start and seeing his younger brother reach their dream before him (it's not spoiler, that's how the story starts).

ACCA 13: it's pure fiction, set in a country that doesn't exist irl. I related to the MC again because when it came out I was the same age as him (30s) and had similar problems such as wanting to change jobs. But that's a subplot. The main plot is a political intrigue.

Tojima wants to become a Kamen Rider: a 40 year old with the unrealistic dream to become a Kamen Rider. Except turns out it might be not that farfetched. Rest of the cast are also adults. My favourite anime currently airing, it's both funny and intense.

Run with the Wind: one of the greatest sports anime I've seen. And I'm not even interested in marathons. They are university students, so young adults. It's more centered on the sport and the personal growth of the characters, the "student life" is secondary.

The great pretender (a series of unfortunate events leads the protagonist to adopt a life of crime. They end up leaving this life behind only to get caught up in an international fraud organization who do high stake crimes against the scummy rich of the world. Very comedic. Every 5 episodes follows a different case and the first is called “Hollywood” The animation is colorful and the jazzy background music is fun!) (Netflix)
