Unfortunately for our main group, the people who have come only appear to be more threats, especially targeting Gabimaru
We have that one dude just killing himself just to prove the Iwagakure will do anything they're told to do. They never even made it to the island!
Tbf, the weak have been culled, so the strong remain. For now at least.
It's just that he can't see criminals as worthy of that empathy or humanity and can be nothing more than a grim reaper towards them and anyone associated with them.
Its always those justice-heads that are the scariest lunatics, bro is already one scary motherfucker just from his lifeless eyes.
But if you are on the **other** side you barely register as a human and deserve nothing more than absolute death.
On an island where enforcers and convicts have come together to survive, he basically represents the exact opposite.
Of the new Asaemon characters, I also didn't like [Kiyomaru](https://imgchest.com/p/bp456mz6v75). He's a very arrogant little jerk, judging by his actions today, so I can't wait to see how he fares on the island, and I certainly won't miss him if he dies there.
Can't you... can't you just *seize* the ill gotten gains and put it into the "orphan fund" for the local prefecture or something?
You know, so you don't have to kill infants just because their dad was a scumbag?
You can downvote all you want. They hyped up that fights against the dude with a gazillions weapons. Before the initial clash they cut straight to the battle field riddled with weapons and the bad guy defeated.
You probably got downvotes because you came to ask that in a season 2 episode discussion.
But if you want to watch an anime solely for the battles, i wouldn't watch this one even though it has some fun fights.
He was also praised for his skill, which is rare for these "older scumbag who is really skilled but also avoids any conflict or work or...anything really"
I really enjoyed how he was characterised by the ninja: She couldn't get a read on him.
I already really like the new characters, they are fun.
So they sent an army of ninjas from the same village as Gabimaru to the island with a side mission to kill Gabimaru since they all hate him apparently. Makes me wonder again if Yui is still alive... wouldn't the ninjas have gotten to her?
I love how Sagiri turned into a flustered maiden upon being reminded of her first love.
And then she finds out said first love also killed babies...
>So they sent an army of ninjas from the same village as Gabimaru to the island with a side mission to kill Gabimaru since they all hate him apparently. Makes me wonder again if Yui is still alive... wouldn't the ninjas have gotten to her?
She's the chiefs' daughter so that might spare her, even if he probably doesn't have any use for her beyond her body as a woman.
Never meet your heroes...?
Given he was among the best of them, he could've been able to hide her in a place they can't trace.
I mean, he's handsome, charming and forthright, that's probably the entire story.
The blonde girl seems to be in love with him too.
Kiyo-chan is short but more than makes up for it in skill and attitude, even if said attitude is bad and he's VERY confrontational. Isuzu, for her part, is the only other woman in the Asaemon after Sagiri and is surprisingly cute and sweet despite her large stature. But don't get on her bad side.
The Iwagakure Ninja are hardcore. They are tools only to service the Shogun (or their masters') ends...and if asked to kill themselves, they'll sing a song and brutally stab themselves through the neck to fulfill said order. And they're going to that island to finally finish off Gabimaru.
They haven't even made it on the island and they've already lost someone. And the Asaemon are only concerned with their fellow Asaemon and fully prepared to kill any criminal who gets in their way. Is it any surprise Jikka thinks they're just bringing more death and destruction with them.
Shugen is one of the top ranked Asaemon for a reason. Not only is he skilled, but he takes what he's learned from his Asaemon, his cherished comrades and friends, and applies it to himself. Meaning he can defeat a monster without even needing to draw his blade from the Shogun!
Yes, Shugen has a very absolute black and white morality, and is very brutal and uncompromising to criminals...but also he's a really good guy and Sagiri's first crush. I mean, can you blame her? He's the one who believed in her and pushed her to became a ranked Asaemon! Even Isuzu looks like she's crushing hard on him.
I mean, sure, he's the type of person who thinks criminals are corrupt by blood and that means he has to execute their families in front of them...and literally parading the dead corpse of a crime boss' baby in front of him...okay, never mind, they're all probably screwed with Shugen there.
Shugen does not take it well finding Eizen's...half a corpse. Eizen is the one who took him in and was a true mentor who molded him, along with the fellow Asaemon's, back home. The least he can do is give him a proper burial.
Kiyo and Isuzu can agree on one thing: if Shugen is in the middle of something, he will NOT be interrupted. And Isuzu has a Darth Maul katana thing going on while Kiyo is a spinning top of death. The Iwagakure Ninja, for their part, believe in strength in numbers. And Jikka...apparently can't unleash his sword for some reason, a point of contention with Shugen, but he's definitely someone you should keep your eye on. Even if he just wants to get out of there.
Shugen is so ticked off he deliberately chips his precious shogun sword to show how much he's ready to destroy everything on this island like they destroyed the man he adored. That cabbage head is not making it to Chisen after all that torture.
Our main characters need to get the elixir and get off this island, but despite knowing enough about tao that they can use against the Tensen...are they obligated to be a team? When there's nothing connecting them together outside shared interest, and even that's flimsy?
But against Shion's expectations...everyone comes together. Even if it's because Yuzuriha needs meat shields, Gantetsusai wants to fight a Tensen, Gabimaru is logical, Toma wants to find his brother, and Sagiri and Fuchi have their duty...they're sticking as a team! And there was no way Shion was going to ditch Nurugai.
The ones who end up on Sagiri's team are mostly the ones with nicer personalities, even Gabimaru doesn't behave like a regular ninja because of his attachment to his wife's memory. Sagiri's team members have also gone through their baptism of fire, so in terms of battle experience they are probably on even terms with the 2nd wave, even if Shugen is the best fighter in his clan. I get the feeling that even if the first wave manages to secure the elixir, they will try to bargain for amnesty for all the criminals. Naturally, this might put them at odds with Shugen's personal philosophy.
Shugen especially looks like he is ready to kill the entire main cast no questions asked. he even went and dulled his sword...
And the shinobi seem to mainly be there to just assassinate Gabimaru.
The other 3 executioners; tall hot blonde, short silverhair, and the purple haired man at least seem like they could see reason and cooperate for survival
Needless to say, don't like the new guy. Seems like a perfect fit with the idiot shogun since he'll have no problems with killing anyone the shogun might want killed. Might yet become the main antagonist.
Wonder if the ninja will just all die along the way, they don't to care very much so far.
The giant asaemon girl is damn cute though, wish she had better judgment than to have a crush on that asshole. And then Jikka (check spelling) is playing the role of a fraud, but I don't trust him. He is the only person that got out of the island so far.
Hey now, even Sagiri fell for him! Well, before she found out how unhinged he was, but still!
As for Shugen, the dude is absolutely terrifying. [He's the kind of person you'd want on your side](https://i.imgur.com/zJXpTCA.jpeg) because the moment he brands you as an enemy and sees you as evil, [the dude can commit horrifying acts](https://i.imgur.com/MSUEhxs.jpeg) that he justifies in the name of justice. Sagiri is definitely gonna struggle once they finally meet again.
And then there's the Iwagakure ninjas! [**WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!**](https://i.imgur.com/93WvSwi.jpeg) Without hesitation and with a smile on his face, the dude committed suicide just because the kid told him to. The fact that they can do this makes them equally as terrifying as Shugen. And they're all there to hunt down Gabimaru O_O
What a contrast between all those happy memories of him with his fellow Asaemon versus that visual of him holding the dead carcass of a baby in front of his criminal father. But I guess that's Shugen in a nutshell.
It's going to be really awkward for when the Asaemon's all reconnect on opposing sides that don't even really need to oppose each other. Like, they grew up together but slowly Sagiri/Shion/Fuchi have been transitioning out of the black and white morality dogma while Shugen believes in it to an absolute degree and Isuzu and Kiyo will basically follow his lead.
Meanwhile Jikka doesn't give a @#$% about anything that's not getting off this island.
It's the opposite for me. They are not particularly skilled (took several of them to take down the giant grunts) and have no self-worth whatsoever. They are just a worse parallel to the Sennin's throwaway monsters.
For a good while I wasn't sure if it was some kind of trick or if he could regenerate afterwards.
Though perhaps it was also just some illusion technique and he's not dead or was never real in the first place.
That's why it was a kid who did it. May be strong but very inexperienced. Shinsenkyou exists to rest and break man made structures of order so I foresee him and especially Shugen having a bad time.
Except Shugen is even more warped in the head. He doesn't want the ninja there, doesn't trust them, and isn't planning on using them in the first place. So what does it matter if they start killing each other?
But, I'm so confused as to why the head of the shinobi kidnapped Gabimaru and killed his parents and then proceeded to train him, but is now telling the shinobi who just arrived on the island to kill him? There is so much more to the story/Gabimaru's up bringing that we are missing here and I'm so intrigued to find out more.
It even sounds like the plan was that they would slip in and be the ones to actually kill him on the day of his execution.
Jikka is so relatable, I found it so funny when that ninja leader was wondering what he was thinking about and it's still "I want to go home" lol.
It was cool to see the Shugen, Kiyomaru and Isuzu's fighting styles. Kiyomaru I particularly found really cool to see, his style is so flashy.
I thought Eizen is going to be important, but he got killed in one episode lol. He seemed to be one of the higher ranking one.
I just remember that Shugen is 1st, Jikka as 3rd, and Sagiri is 11th.
Bro has no secret agenda he just understands the circumstances
The way the gang immediately followed Shion back in like a bunch of ducklings lmao
Somebody protect Mei!
>The way the gang immediately followed Shion back in like a bunch of ducklings lmao
At least as a group they already vibe well together, if nothing else.
While they don't say it explicitly, at this point they must've been slightly traumatised by the entire island experience lol. Sticking in a group provides much needed comfort
Except Tamiya. He truly just vibing and if he dies he'll just tell himself it was a skill issue
>Though she is a woman
😑 Didn’t need to put that little tidbit in there, mate, but all right.
Isuzu is adorable. **Please let her live**.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat
Was…? Was taking off that part of your outfit necessary? But you showing bicep, and you have eye bags and dead eyes , so I don’t care.
Sagirin’s first love?!
🎶It’s just an infant. It’s just a boy🎶
I thought Isuzu was a demon slayer for a second.
He got dizzy, that’s so cute.
Daddy Shion and his baby ducks bye ✋🏾😭 I’d be immediately following him into a cave too, honestly. For the mission. Of course.
***
Ryota Suzuki is Shugen, but he was also Kurosawa (MC2) in <Cherry Magic>, and I’m just tickled with that.
Aza, Shugen, and Shion make me delusional. Put all three of them in a hunk show.
I like seeing infighting from a “lawful” group, so I’m very curious how Shugen will react to Sagarin, Shion, and Fuchi whenever they meet, especially Shion being his senior (if I’m understanding the ages right) yet working with criminals.
I like how on Hell Island we still find time to tease Sagiri about her love life.
Seems like all Eizen managed to do is turn a psychotic child into a psychopathic man, for Crying Freeman over there. :p My favorite 2nd waver is Isuzu though.
Sagiri having the same VA as Hayasaka Ai from Kaguya-sama makes her maiden behavior even better. It's such a perfect cast.

I love how Isuzu practices the Darth Maul school of swordplay lol.
So basically this is going to become a Pokemon battle of Tao to where they need to lean into type advantages/disadvantages. Gabimaru, I choose you!
I love how Yuzuriha's justification for sticking with them was "I'm going to need meat shields." Although it's funny how she's mentioned wanting to get off that island practically every episode. Now it's like her catchphrase lol.
I like this type of character but he is being built up a lot in this episode both power wise and personality wise.
I liked how much he valued that sword and outfit but rage overwhelmed that and blunted it to make it hurt as much as possible.
Isuzu is so cute lol.
Jikka also very suspicious for not being able to draw his sword ? Curious why.
The ninjas also with their goal of killing Gabimaru and is that guy at the start really dead ? I wouldnt be surprised if somehow they faked that he felt more important but it also makes sense if he is dead.
Escape and Elixir they still have to go through the Tensen so things are ramping up even more with some many people and groups in this death island and Chobei still on the inside.
I have a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Esfq6GnHa0w) review if anyone is interested.
Those ninja are completely insane, no wonder Gabimaru is like he is if they raised him. But with 50 of them, they gave me strong “expendable minions” vibes, even before their leader killed himself to make a point.
Shugen is bad news. I hate those kinds of self-righteous fanatics. The other three seemed more sensible, but since he is the leader, they will follow him. That said, they may have to fight the Tensen before they even meet Gabimaru and his group.
I wonder how many people will survive the island in the end, but I doubt that I will need more than one hand to count them. At least Gabimaru’s team has sensibly decided to wait until they actually escape before even thinking about betraying each other for the pardon.
My immediate thought and deep disappointment when we got to know him better, "oh no, he's a righteous one". It'll make for an interesting story but he'll probably get in the way of the main team's goals. Who knows. He may have a change of mind.
And also, please don't let them cross Shugen's path. That guy is terrifying.
Well the "loving" part is debatable, but yeah! :p
Thinking back on it her own previous rigid view on criminals may have been something she copied from him, and she's moved way past that
Wait he's a turbo psycho who's basically the meme of Batman beating up people for drinking Sprite? Hell nawh.
Also Chobe takes the "When in rome..." motto to heart. He's even wearing the ceremonial robes and stuff.
Okay, little kid Asaemon is a annoying asshole, but blonde muscle mommy one seems alright...kind of giving me Milly vibes from Trigun.
Shugen is absolutely terrifying though...just an utter black and white view of the world. If you are a criminal you deserve death..or if you are related or associated with a criminal. That's obviously going to make him opposed to Sagiri and Shion
I still don't trust Jikka, but he does seem to genuinely give off "This was suppose to be my day off" vibes that I don't think an out and out traitor would have. He is probably going to be the most practical of the four new Asaemon, and the one most likely to be cool with Sagiri and co.
the Shinobi seem certainly terrifying in there own way, even though Shugen kind of takes top place there for terrifying. A little worried that we are going to get a twist with head lady Shinobi that she might actually be Yui or something along the lines, but I might be reading too much on how the remaining portion of her mask would conceal the side of the face that is scarred. But I kind of feel the show would pull some shit like that.
Surprised everyone was so quick on choosing to stick together. Although Toma seems to be being a Diva about it.
I can imagine Sagiri eventually having to deal with Shugen for the narrative hit of her having to kill or at least defeat her first crush.
The rest does seem completely nuts, although it makes sense that executioners would not be recruited among the most normal and stable people.
All these [shinobi](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/17f96cbc3d95.png) aren't good signs either (since [they're total freaks who'll even commit suicide](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/bc5c35dd24d6.png) if you ask them to), though mainly for Gabimaru, since he's their sole target.
I already liked [Jikka](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/b2c379de23ce.png), so I wish him luck in surviving the journey to that island again. I also hope [Isuzu](https://imgchest.com/p/pg736dw6o7r) survives as well—she seems like a good person and a very talented fighter.

Her being a blushing happy mess the other moments is just icing on the cake. Then we have the short Kiyomaru being unapologetically sassy while moving like friccin Levi from AOT. I can't wait for Gantetsusai to meet them particularly Isuzu.
I'm interested in the higher class ninja, but I do have doubts about how the lower ones will kill the stronger enemies. I imagine most will use suicidal tactics aka we're nothing but tools. If we all must die to accomplish the mission then so be it.
Every flashback with Eizen makes me sad. We have this guy who was rank 1 I believe and mentored lots of these guys, but he dies in the first few episodes from that giant prisoner in one attack? It feels like he was just killed to demonstrate how dangerous the island was and no one was safe, but we already got plenty of moments like that. *Remembers Tenza and Nurugai wedding scene*
[](#emptyinside)
I'm not saying I have the full picture, but I'm sensing major plotwists regarding Gabimaru's true past and circumstances, also they are definitely trying to kill him so that he does not get the elixir and can possibly challenge the chief, though even without it he is getting more and more into the tao stuff which is definitely also behind chief's power.
