Anime where suspension of disbelief did not work for you
So im just watching MF ghost and its fine anime but i just cant take it seriously and just cringe at most of the lines and afromentioned suspension of disbelief just did not kick in at any moment.
Funny thing is that i am capabale of watching the most trash harem anime ( alghtough most tend to have fantasy setting so thats probably doing a lot of work ) and really sink into them but mfg ghost just dosent work despite having much less nonsense. I assume its beacuse of the very realistic setting combined with high school girl being race girl and some other nonsense sprinkled throught including very weird backstory of looking for a father , and random talking scenes during races . Probably . Tbh i just cant sink into it.
So are there series that did the same for you?

I mean, right from episode one. Lucy happens to wash up exactly where Kouta is walking the one time he returns to town after years of being away. Like, come on!
And Lucy's amnesia coming in-and-out whenever the plot demanded? Drove me insane!
In addition to having a lot of that early-2000's edgy feel. I couldn't take the anime seriously.
It's almost like you can't tell a story without fullfilling its prerequisites regardless of the probability.
Out of several billions of people Light was the one to find a death note? Come on!
Out of all people it was Amuro who found and piloted Gundam made by his father? Come on!
Light was genuinely some random guy, entirely unrelated to the Death Note.
Kouta was not some random guy. He had a long history with Lucy.
Lucy conveniently washes up in front right of someone with whom she has the most significant history ([spoilers](https://elfen-lied.fandom.com/wiki/Kouta)). Out of all out of all 122 million people in Japan, it had to be that one guy.
Light was in the right place at the right time, but it really could've been anyone who picked up the Death Note. He wasn't anymore special than the next guy walking right beside him at school.
The story could exist. There are any number of ways the two could've been written to reunite that didn't involve complete random chance and coincidence.
If a story began with someone winning the Powerball Jackpot five hundred times in a row, am I just supposed to say "wow totally believable" because the story was written that way? Because the story said so?
At some point suspension of disbelief is broken. And the unbelievable, unlikely way Lucy reunited with Kouta is one reason it broke for me while I was watching Elfen Lied. That's literally all I'm saying.
So, no. I guess I don't know what point you're trying to make.
I noticed.
It was kind of the same for Initial D too but I had much more investment in the characters so I didn't mind the in-between racing stuff.
But everything you said still seems plausible. If I had a criticism in that regard, it would be the protagonist winning against everyone with a much inferior car, relying solely on his driving talent, at least that's what I've heard.
Overall, based on your comment, it just seems like you really don't like the story, since not having races all the time doesn't seem like a problem, at least not in your opinion.
But of course, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, since I also wasn't interested in the story and dropped it after the first episode.
And then like any mech show. Manned mechs are just generally poor weapons of war and I usually have great difficulty getting over that fact.
A similar dynamic to a lesser extent with Bocchi the Rock. Bocchi is way too attractive to be so socially awkward/afraid to talk to people. The story is that everyone ignores her, but the writer really wants me to believe she got zero attention from her male classmates?
(And there are lots of girls IRL who are plenty conventionally attractive that still have crippling social anxiety, you don’t know what anyone has been through)
In any case, not that it really matters, I love the show and the character. I do simply believe one has to have some suspension of disbelief to portray a very cute adorable character who is also a massive outcast that everyone ignores.
what Marin likes the MOST in someone is passion. that's what makes Gojo so stupidly attractive to her, because she can easily see the genuine eagerness and deep, full-throated passion for the things that he loves and for his art. it isn't especially hard to believe that she's never really run into someone quite like Gojo before
edit: I didn't even read the last part. it doesn't matter how "attractive" someone is, if they're weird and anti-social enough nobody will pay attention. Bocchi can't start or hold conversations to save her goddamn life. and when people try to talk to her she runs away, lmao
She's in her first year of high school, it's not that farfetched
One example is that Gojo is so focused on doll making that he has no friends at all. That is so extreme that it strains credulity. Like really dude, until you met this girl you did not talk to anyone ever?
The loner MC is already a well well established trope, and unless you have a good reason, the better way to handle it is they have exactly one close friend who is either also their own kind of weirdo or they have a personality that contrasts with the MC.
MDUD has a ton of stuff like this where it is sooo focused on the relationship and the cosplay it feels weird because most people have lives outside of that.
this is only half true. the other reason he's socially isolated is because someone he was close to told him he was gross and weird for doing it so he kinda just figured nobody would want to be his friend and absolutely buried himself in the craft. so it's less an incredulous "too focused" and more an "unhealthy self-isolation due to crippling insecurity," is how I look at it
>most people have lives outside of that
I mean... it's not hard to just assume that they're doing that other stuff off-camera though, right? well get glimpses of them hanging out, Marin's modeling job, they go to a grocery store in S2, they go to karaoke with friends a couple times, like there's a lot that suggests a life outside of cosplay and romance
Really liked the artstyle though.
So much of the show was incredibly ham-fisted, poorly executed, and downright dumb and juvenile even by shonen action show standards.
I wanted to like it but every time a began to engage disbelief it threw me out of the moment with developments
…that were clearly trying to be serious but were not properly built up or consistent…
…utterly ridiculous given what was just shown or said
…absurd based on context, characters, and world-building
…that seem like they were possibly trying to be funny but ruined what would have been an incredible scene.
Why this show is popular might have more to do with the original material and not the adaptation. It’s stylish and well animated so it’s a shame it gets in its own way. I swear two back to back scenes were the same moment adapted independently with different approaches…and not intentionally.
It's one of the few shows I disliked that I still ended up finishing simply because it was one of my first shows and I didn't drop shows I didn't enjoy yet.
> the same problem that every carnivore on the planet has
Wow, you dropped it real early.
Seemingly everybody else is able to suspend their disbelief for this one.
The baby getting upset over Twitter drama and the toddler swearing revenge had me laughing too hard to stay immersed.
I feel so lonely here, I'm the only person who thought that the premise was weird.
It’s a hard pill to swallow upfront to get into what is a really good show. I think you probably already need to be comfortable with or tolerant of Japanese idol culture and cringy/questionable otaku stuff to let the premise make way for all the drama and mystery. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone but a seasoned animephile.
