What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [February 1st, 2026]
Title says it all - talk about the anime you watched this past week that are not a part of this Winter 2026 season (like **Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu** or **Tamon-kun Ima Docchi!**), or a show that's continuing from previous seasons (like **Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider**).
With regards to Fall 2025 shows, however, it would be fine to write about them as long as you only began them after they finished airing. For example, it's fine to talk about watching **One Punch Man 3** or **Chitose-kun wa Ramune Bin no Naka** if you started them after the final episode aired. Obviously, use your best judgement on this.
**Please use spoiler tags**; it's super simple stuff. An example below:

**Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved** Awesome from KyoAni once again. Though was kinda hoping for more SOL stuff but the action and animation for it was insane. Pretty cool to get more worldbuilding and insight into the other world with the dragons as well. Hopefully there’s more to come.
One thing that left a sour taste in my mouth though [Kobayashi movie]>!was it didn’t feel like they addressed Azad’s motivations. Like yeah he was still wrong to instigate a war but he wasn’t wrong about the dragon’s destructive nature and how he (and probably many humans) lost so much at the dragon’s hands. Felt like they just let that slide cos he something wrong to them!<
**Mono Rewatch (11-12/12)** The writer of this really has a knack for writing creepy supernatural stuff cos that last episode was legit tense stuff. I really wonder if they wanted to write a horror manga but was forced to do SOL instead so they sneaked in some horror stuff here and there. I can legit count about 4 separate scary things that happened this season.
But either way, excellent show. Funny they did cinephoto stuff on the first and last episode only though. Really felt more like following the girls visiting places than doing club or school stuff. But I’m not complaining
**ONGOING**
**Minami-ke S4 (1-7/13)** Again, one of those SOL shows where you can more invested the longer you watch cos you get to know all the characters and they start to mingle with each other and how they bounce off each other and seeing their dynamic is so fun. Been enjoying this series more and more as it goes on.
Still cannot get myself to like the Hosaka-senpai stuff though. It’s just not funny to me. I do wonder if they’re gonna eventually find out about Mako-chan. Feel like few people are slowly finding out.
**THIS WEEK**
Probably gonna finish up **Minami-ke S4** this week.
Still thinking of what to watch next for iyashikei weekends. Feel like trying out something new but I really feel I’ve watched most of the good ones already. Maybe I’ll just rewatch **Flying Witch** or **Super Cub** or **Barakamon**

**Yu-Gi-Oh! GX**, episode 69
This was a funny episode. [](#azusalaugh)
**D.Gray-man Hallow**, episodes 11-13
Well, time to go read the manga now.
[](#oilup)
In the end, Hallow had the exact opposite problem the original series did (OG stretched things out too much while Hallow rushed things too much), and I never did get used to most of the new voices, but it was still a very fun series and I’m looking forward to reading where the manga continues from here.
**One Piece**, episodes 25-30
[Sanji’s officially part of the crew now!](#seasonalhype) Really solid batch of episodes this week.
**FLAG**, episode 1
Very interesting start, although the copy I'm using has really badly typeset subs.
**Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun**, episodes 8-13 (subbed) + **Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 2**, episodes 3-13 (dubbed)
[So much Iruma-kun again!](#delighted)

[Tune in next time for]>!just watching through more of everything here, can’t think of anything else I would be adding.!<
**Ya Boy Kongming!**. I remember this one getting a lot of hype while airing but otherwise went in blind. It was fine, kind of a limited premise.
I am now about halfway through season 1 of **My Dress-up Darling**. Next I am thinking **Ascendance of a Bookworm**.
I forgot about this show's existence and now the OP is stuck in my head again.
Good idea.
**Super Dimensional Century Orguss Episodes 33 - 35 (Completed)** - Orguss TV ends much like the journey to this point, an average mecha anime that was never terrible but never reached too much of a height either. Certainly other mecha anime from this era have this problem as well, but we absolutely didn't get 35 episodes worth of plot here and the show wrapped up in quicker fashion than I was expecting. The ending was [Orguss]>!very Twilight Zone esque!<. On the bright side I can say things always looked good.
**Orguss 02 Episodes 1 - 4** - This six episode OVA despite taking the name seemingly has nothing to do with the original show whatsoever. Well maybe at most two things, it is clearly still Mikimoto inspired character designs here and I think they've at least given a hint that [Orguss 02]>!Nataluma may be an Emaan?!<. Megazone 23 which I watched last month went totally in a different direction with its later portions and this seems to be doing something similar. That said, I'm actually finding myself more interested in this than regular Orguss. Perhaps its simply because with six episodes they need to get through events in a more rapid fashion. Oh, and that evil Queen is perfectly cast with Yoshiko Sakakibara...
**My Dress Up Darling Episodes 20 - 24 (Completed)** - This stuck to landing fairly well although [Dress Up Darling]>!as with many romance anime I'd appreciate the characters not hold in things so much and shoot their shot, especially when it should be rather obvious how the other feels. Marin has many of the same self doubts that Gojo has had so we cycle through that kinda stuff again and then the season ends with her chickening out and not telling him how she feels. I suppose this is one of those stories where once the characters express their feelings for each other and officially become a couple the story has to end?!< Overall this was a really good anime though, happy I watched it. Oshi no Ko this week gave us an episode dedicated to cosplay and here we've got an entire series focused on it. Gojo and Marin are both very likable characters although I can see the criticism that Marin is too perfect. Even with these episodes I watched [Dress Up Darling]>!it looks like we actually have another character that hates her, then no it turns out she's infatuated with one of her character portrayals instead!<. This show really turned up the fan service to 99 with merely the second episode but I feel after that was more toned down than what I was expecting.
**Revisions Episodes 6 - 10** - This show continues to look rather impressive with its animation style (as I mentioned last week like Girls Band Cry or Trigun Stampede) and its got pretty good designs and some interesting plot twists. There is a ton of fighting and arguing among our main heroes, I feel more than pretty much any other mecha anime I've seen. That said, there's a mere 2 episodes to go so this will soon be over and I wonder if they'll have room to pull it off well.
**Mobile Fighter G Gundam Episode 2 (rewatch)** - One episode a week with this, so it will be a slow ride throughout the year. This is my first time watching it subbed and never realized that Hochu Ohtsuka voices Chibodee! That's awesome. He plays a major character in Revisions too!
**Flag Episode 1 (rewatch)** - See rewatch post later today!
**Horimiya Episode 1** - See rewatch post later today!
Then I finished watching **Chuuzenji-sensei Mononoke Kougiroku** and it was just okay. There was nothing about it that was particularly great or terrible, just very average in almost everything. [The mysteries]>!are sadly entirely mundane!<, and while that is also fine in concept, a much stronger supporting cast would have probably made it more impactful/enjoyable to me.
Episode 243 was quite [rich in references](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/6c03ac373789.png), *Penguindrum* must’ve been a pretty popular show back then since *Gintama* references it among other things (and the rightmost girl on the pic must be Madoka!).
**Mobile Suit Gundam 0079** (eps 1-15, in progress) — *Space Dandy* made me want to finally watch some classic anime in space setting, so I decided to finally check this one out! I’ve been thinking about this legendary show for a long time for a lot of reasons: cultural impact, Star Wars influence, other mecha anime I wanted to check out (*Ideon* and last year’s *Gundam Gqux*) but decided I’d better watch this one first (not all of Gundam but at least the 0079).
I’m not big on military thematic, but started watching and got sufficiently hooked anyway. Can’t say much good or bad about this anime so far, I think it’s very much what I expected to see — an old show about big robots war in space.
Things I liked: traveling through different places and settings in both space and on the Earth — space colonies, Earth’s atmosphere, Earth’s settlements, islands etc. Even feels a bit like *One Piece* where the characters are constantly on a (space) ship on a journey.
Another notable thing: the fighting dynamics between Federation and Zeon so far [mild spoilers] >!main characters being less skilled than opponent (most notably Char) but still prevailing every single time through having better weapons (Gundam). It’s usually the other way around.!<
Mildly annoying things: characters occasionally being unrealistically stupid, e.g. [ep 7] >!shitheads who had audacity to take hostages on the very same ship that’s been busy hauling their elderly asses to safety the whole time. Come on, just jump out the window if you wanna step foot on Earth so bad no matter what.!<
Now look, I ain't saying I wasn't entertained by this, far from it. And the series' slow burn of showing just how bad of a dystopia the characters are living in was mildly amusing to piece together. As was waiting for 02's origin story cuz you knew it was likely to be a whole thing. But well, a lot of the plot development and twists and such at large felt more matter or course than anything substantial. If that analogy makes sense.
And then came the last 5 or 6 episodes. What the fuck were they thinking that that out of nowhere plot twist was a narratively good idea? I won't name names here for spoiler reasons but it was just such a forced shoehorn in from one series in particular I could name that it just felt like they ran outta ideas of how to actually fittingly end this thing. It reeked of effort... If I had to name this show's greatest failing, it's that.
Well. In the end looking into this one a bit after the fact showed me that there is a serious dichotomy of overall takes on this show. And I vibe with many of their valid points. But, my stance overall is (shoehorned final arc aside) this was like I said a middle ground series that was at least entertaining. But whose narrative stitching is noticeable.
Watched the movie **Bayonetta: Bloody Fate**.
And lastly I landed on the series **Haigakura**. The name of this one sounded familiar so when I gave it a glance look into I was like "Oh yeah, this is that series that had yearlong production hiatus or whatever mid season". Made me feel really sorry for those watching this when it was new.
But even then, the series itself wasn't really something I felt would've been worth pining over even when it did it's extended hiatus. Dunno how to explain it, it felt like it had it's supernatural whatever aspect building blocks but they just never quite clicked together in the right places. Not to mention this had a very lackluster plot threads dangling open ended non-ending. I admit I've seen worse series that had that kind of fault, but this one was nothing but mid at generous best.
It follows 4 different people and the stories are connected. Its an meh show. Its an OVA from 09 and its four 15 minutes episodes.
Rewatched **Princess Principal**
But damn I forgot how perverted it was 🤣
: solo leveling, free, wotaku ni koi wa musukashii....
These are just a few examples.
I really enjoyed SOLO LEVELING because visually it's right up my alley. The way the characters move, the speed... and I like this kind of action series, so let's say it's my series of the week. There's my "comics fan" side, and therefore my love of superheroes with powers, which comes out \^\^.
As for FREE, I haven't seen all the episodes yet, so I'll wait until the end to form my own opinion, but so far it's enjoyable... I like anime about sports (like basketball, soccer, etc.). This one is about swimming.
Since I'm open to all styles, I can switch from one type of anime to another without hesitation. I initially watched Wotaku for the "otaku" aspect of the characters.
Do you have any questions?
- Let's Play: Quest-darake no My Life
- Hotel Inhumans
I feel an indescribable sense of immediate happiness whenever Haru is on screen
Still, both Tsubasa Tiger and Hitagi End are my favorite arcs from the entirety of Monogatari so far, so I ended up liking the season in general. Next week I'll be starting Tsukimonogatari which shouldn't take long (only 4 episodes) and then I'll be going into the Kizumonogatari movies, I was going for the anime release order at first but seeing how I saw Hanamonogatari in the middle of Second Season might as well get the movies out of the way and continue with the novel release order lol
In the midst of needing a break from Gankutsuou (already), I started an old anime with a visual kei-looking deuteragonist and realized that I think I actually watched it long ago before I kept track. It's called The Betrayal Knows My Name and I eventually recognized it because the MC's voice has this terrible nasally but unique sound to it. It's not great writing so far, but I'm going to finish it because I don't remember what happened.
***
**Digimon Adventure 2** episodes 5-8 (rewatch) - It's been a few years since I last watched it, so I had forgotten how fast the story moves, but I like that about it. They've already figured out the identity of the "emperor" and made significant progress freeing areas from his control. It reminds me of a tower defense style game which is cool.
***
**Wandance** - This show wasn't on my radar at first, but I watched it after seeing all the comments about how wholesome it is, and I'm glad I did. My family and I really enjoyed this one! Wanda and Kabo are a sweet pair, and the dance club has a really positive vibe. The dance battles had me feeling a lot more invested than I expected, especially in the second half after getting to know all the characters. I ended up liking Iori and On just as much as the main pair! I don't mind the 3D animation either - in fact, I think their moves look pretty good. Iori's style of hip hop + break dance is my favorite, but Wanda and Kabo together are a close second. I loved the [scene] >!when he started to falter after that slide but she caught him, and made it look like they planned it that way.!< But what a [cliffhanger ending] >!stopping right before Iori vs Kabe like that.!< Hope it gets a second season. I'm planning to read the manga as well. *Rating: 8.5/10*

**Disney Twisted Wonderland** - This is a show that got better as it went along. The first episode was kind of rough and suffered from showing off too many characters without giving them time for proper introductions. After the focus settled on about a half dozen characters, it was easier to see their individual personalities and their banter is pretty fun at times. I like the occasional Disney references like the cottage and diamond mine from Snow White being an area where they went dungeon crawling, and bishounen Scar dropping his "be prepared" line. The main conflict was a little silly, but it fit the original Alice in Wonderland story it's based on. I think it's a missed opportunity though not having the MC be aware of Disney stories before he was isekai'd. It would've made for good comedy. The ending hints there might be a season 2 coming with a sports tournament centered on the Lion King (my favorite Disney movie) house, and if there is, I'll watch it. *Rating: 7.5/10*
***
**FLAG** episode 1 - It's interesting in the same way as a war documentary or history lesson, and so far, it's more along those lines than an actual story, like everything is being reported after the fact by narration rather than experiencing events as they unfold. I'm not a fan of the viewed-through-a-camera lens gimmick. It makes the story feel impersonal, or disconnected, especially when the faces of people speaking are off-screen or a scene is shown in still images. There were times when I ended up looking away from the screen because there was nothing visually to hold my attention. The mech design of a tank that transforms into an upright robot is cool though.

Next up, more **Full Metal Panic** and **Digimon Adventure 2**, plus the first half of **FLAG** alongside the ongoing [rewatch](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qa8z7u/flag_20th_anniversary_rewatch_announcement/), and of course **Horimiya** for my own [Valentine's Triple Feature Rewatch](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qgkmwo/valentines_triple_feature_horimiya_shikimoris_not/)!
It doesn't feel as cohesive as some other stories, say *Toradora*. It's 6ep of amazing romance, followed by 6ep of very good SoL. So much of the story is presented as self-contained encounters that fit the overall world and timeline, but don't really feed into a bigger narrative. It's kind of poetic; what is real life but a series of events? But by the end when we veered into Matoko, it felt like the author had lost interest in their own story rather than an intentional choice.
And now for probably the coldest take on this sub: as produced, Horimiya is a 8/10 highschool romance and 9/10 SoL about the introvert getting adopted. I'm going thru *Missing Pieces*, and I'm astonished the story about Miyamura's scent didn't go into S1.
Also, hated Miyamura's character design post-haircut as much as Hori. He looks so generic afterwards.
Honestly, those are some of my favorite parts too. I love how Miyamura fits in so well with Hori's family.
I was on board for a cutesy romance with very little characters outside of the main couple and once they become a couple the shows spends a lot of time focusing heavily in all those characters i honestly didnt care at all
Ep 60-71
[Maison Ikkoku] >!Glad that the glacial pace of the romance is finally picking up!<
Some of the episodes have been super endearing, and I love the artwork. [Ep 14] >!Their first date and the locations getting confused was so unfortunate but Godai really is in love with that woman to wait for her like that. Kinda wish Kyoko wasn't always so mean to him though lol but I guess its one way to keep the pervy tendencies under wraps.!<
Barosu has finally developed some common sense, and that can only be good for the story. However, Emilia's camp currently seems a bit short on consistent characters. Hopefully, things will improve in future seasons. Speaking of season, this one seemed very fast-paced to me, and I read they've left the last part of arc 6 for the next one.
The dubbing in my language is back to a good standard, so I guess the problems in the second half of season 2 were due to rushing.
**Steins; Gate** (ep. 1-5)
I still have to figure it out, but it seems like things are going to get interesting with episode 5. Hmm, I remember I wrote the same thing about Neon Genesis Evangelion. I don't know if that's a good sign or not.
**Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 - Thrice upon a time**
It took Anno only 8 years to complete the film, and the "Rebuild" series. A series that, honestly, I don't like for several reasons, other than the insane rush. But I won't go into because it would make another series.
Anyway, the part in the survivors' village, was the most interesting of the entire "Rebuild". Two things are worth mentioning: Anno is very indecisive, and that was known, and he's a smartass, because with the idea of the Adam/Kaworu loop, he kept the doors open for further things. The ending is the most psychological part. I've read many discussions about it, but I think:
* The scene where Shinji says he liked Asuka in the past is done badly. It's true that 14 years have passed, but for Shinji point of view, it's only been a few weeks. Not a very distant past.
* After that, Asuka turns and curls up. She seems the only character who hasn't matured. To be honest, this scene left me feeling uncomfortable. I think Anno mistreated the character a little.
* In station scene, there's no timeskip. Here Rei, Kaworu and Asuka represent the past that's being chased away, while Maria Iscariot represents maturity and responsibility, which Shinji ultimately accepts.
* Speaking of Maria, I see her as the trickster of the series.
* Nice that Kaworu and Rei talk, recalling Adam and Lilith (for those who don't know, in some traditions Lilith is Adam's first wife, and they didn't get along).
And, about Italian dubbing, it's questionable. But I've learned that when certain people are involved, that's the result.
My interpretation of this scene was a little different. Provided you buy into the looping theory, the timeline resets at Third/Fourth Impact every time he is unable to move on from the relationships that he builds with the other characters in the series. As the Evangelions are what bring them all together, they and thus the events of the series are present every time the world is remade *because* Shinji fails to let go of the connections he's made. This is why the climax of the film (and the series) is the destruction of the Evangelions: without them, Shinji has no connection to the other characters in the series and by erasing them from reality he finally lays the groundwork for moving on.
That, to me, is what the final scene at the station is. It's Shinji's final test. He has to *literally* let the other characters go without calling out to them. If he does, the timeline would reset again because he would have proven himself unable to go on without them.
About the station, the difference is that, in my interpretation, that scene metaphorically represents a choice (or test) that has already occurred, rather than being Shinji's final choice.
About the loop, I think that, though influenced by Shinji's choiches, it's only from Kaworu's perspective. Therefore, I don't interpret the occurrence of every third/fourth impact as a general reset of the world, but it initiates another world-timeline, and cast, in which Kaworu reset, until a "good ending" from his perspective occurs. This is the case of the ending of "Rebuild", that closes the loop, according to the conversation between Kaji and Kaworu.
(In this regard, the "open doors for other things" I wrote about, would take place in timelines prior to the one in the film.)
A damn good sports movie.
I could tell this was written by the Orb guy when characters were having a lot of 1 on 1 conversations about the 100m and their raison d etre. The rotoscoping used in the film really made the race scenes standout and overall some great cinematography. Was easily invested in the rivalry between the two leads. Also a very unintentionally funny ugly crying scene lol.

**Turn A Gundam**: (ep 6 - 11)
*Episode 7* - Laura & Harry dancing at the ball. It’s like if Amuro x Char was even less subtle.
*Episode 8* - Quest for salt? How about Quest for Milk! Funny that it actually turned into a serious episode at the end [Turn A Gundam ep 8]>!Loran reveals his secret about being moonrace!<
*Episodes 9 - 11* - Wouldn’t be Gundam without that one wacky villain, here it’s Corin Nander who has angry issues from all the steroids lol. [Turn A Gundam ep 10-11]>!And we’re already doing some switch-a-roos between Kihel and Dianna. Looks like it will be a couple episodes too since the moon ship went to the sunbelt leaving Dianna behind.!<

**[Cosmic Princess Kaguya! (Chō Kaguya-hime!)](https://myanimelist.net/anime/62896/Chou_Kaguya-hime)**
A musical fantasy movie loosely based on *The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter* set in the near future in Japan where a high school girl living alone encounters a mysterious girl claiming to be from the Moon.
This film has some high production values, showing off flashy and colorful animation alongside a good soundtrack. The cast of characters is entertaining, and the story and setting partly remind me of *Sing a Bit of Harmony* and *Summer Wars*. Even with a long runtime of around 2 hours and 10 minutes before end credits, the plot pacing is pretty steady. There are some parts near the end that seem a bit rushed which makes me wonder if the story could have worked better in multiple parts or as a short series.
Overall, this is a good-looking and very entertaining take on a famous Japanese folktale in a modern setting with plenty of music.

Ongoing:
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (S3 11/11 Episodes)
- Prison School (9/12 Episodes, 0/1 OVA)
- Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun (S1 13/23 Episodes)
Didn't like it so much, though. Both protagonists are very annoying and the motif of Risa (female MC) dramatically breaking down crying is very overused. It hits once (with a cool soundtrack) but then quickly becomes boring. Perhaps I also underestimated how much of a slapstick element it has, which made it less enjoyable to me.
The most interesting thing about the anime was the Kansai dialect, which even I with very rudimentary Japanese knowledge recognized.
idk if i'll ever get over how they botched that show
I also rewatched some Iruma-kun.
Vision of Escaflone ep 1, 2. Peak 90’s vibe. Beyond that is another just okay show. Still can’t get into it really.
Call of the night s2 a good series about depression (and insomnia), not sure how to really describe how it feels but it’s very relaxed.
I think the show definitely improved again in the last stretch. Once the Tsukasa and Isla were actually in a relationship, they stopped with all the awful romcom tropes, which makes it being a little sappy tolerable. The last date laid it on a bit think, but I admit I did tear up a little. Overall I think the story about loss (which was mirrored extremely well between their work in Retrieval and their own relationship) was very good, and I just wish that was more of a focus than the romcom elements. This show hits the unfortunate bullseye of "really good if it was good"
Now im catching up on Darker then Black since its been 10 years since i started the first few episodes and never looked back. Heck its the whole reason im on this community rn!
Finished **Takopi's Original Sin**. I finished this a couple days ago and I am still thinking about this anime. I also have a void still. I think this is a great anime and one that is extremely powerful. I had a great experience and was absorbed into the world. I also felt profound hope. It does a pretty good story and characters and is well directed and animated. The OST was great. The insert song in ep 6 was on par with the Maquia ed for me - it was so emotionally captivating and personal. The anime is also, just real. Its not edgy but does enough to grab you and tell you that this is reality. Its about broken kids and the experience of living in poor and heart breaking lives. This is very much a blackspot in society, discourse and consciousness. I believe more people need to watch this! It may give more perspective, empathy and love to people, in a world where there seems to be a spectacular lack thereof. This may be a show for someone to feel less alone. For anyone that needs to see this, never give up. Try your best. I think its best to go into the show blind.
Started **Desert Punk**. Looking forward to this show because the comedy seems really good. Also the script seems fantastic. The setting is cool. It looks really well made for a pre digital show.
* Horimiya - First 3 episodes and am in the watch along. Really good and funny so far.
* Legend of the Galactic Heroes
* One Piece
* Kaguya Sama Love Is War
* To Be Hero X
* High School! Kimengumi the original show from 1985. I watched the first episode and it was so different from shows now, just really quirky and more akin to a show like Spongebob than most anime. I really enjoyed it and it's hilarious. I haven't seen the current version for comparison.
* Minami-Ke - a comedy show about young teen girls similar to Azumanga Daioh. It's funny but kind of inconsistent.
