That 4 minute no cut scene in the JJK episode was so well done
melindypants2026-02-02 12:28
We love a good rotoscoping
Reeeaper2026-02-02 00:54
Journal with Witch has been incredible.
Whole-Shape-77192026-02-02 04:09
That one anime that will end up in a lot of year end top 10’s to everyone’s surprise. Absolutely terrific show out of nowhere.
Uppercut_City2026-02-02 10:24
Hopefully people don't forget about it. Those lists tend to have a lot of recency bias
Various_Confusion9812026-02-02 07:19
Love this show. Was kinda sad how little attention it seemed to be getting ( comparing some other shows at least )
flonc2026-02-02 08:10
Masterclass in approach to dealing with trauma. Don't know about the author, but it feels really personal and well done - can't wait to see more of it and I am so glad I picked it up randomly
Uppercut_City2026-02-02 10:23
Yeah I'm really happy to see that up there
DanielFromNigeria2026-02-02 00:59
Tamons b side still going hard 🔥. My favorite anime this season
feb9142026-02-02 02:03
Never expected that Oshi No Ko is not only the 2nd most exciting idol show of the season, but of the release day. (though tbf I've read the manga so the excitement kinda dampened)
Sgt_General2026-02-02 04:33
I wasn't too sure about Oshi no Housekeeper in the first couple of episodes, but I've had to apologise for not being familiar with its game. Tamon-kun has been popping off for the past few episodes!
Unusual_Rush_11892026-02-02 01:03
Interesting. Any fans of Tamon's chime in to discuss the high points and thoughts regarding it being this high up? It wasn't on my radar and I'm interested on why the hype.
TheBusStop122026-02-02 01:38
It has a protagonist x main love interest dynamic that you don't see that often. With Tamon being a national icon as the centre of a famous idol group while being plagued by crippling anxiety irl, and Utage being an obsessed fan girl who's trying to keep her distance because that would be the healthy thing to do. Furthermore, boy idol anime are rare as well. So it's premise feels pretty fresh. This paired with good character writing, funny comedy (including good use of the visual medium for humor) great art, acting and music makes for a very enjoyable show. The MC Utage is a really good boy band obsessed otaku, and Tamon is basically male Bochi the Rock. The different faces and facades we wear in different aspects of our life is a big theme. The Idol group being called F/ACE is very on the nose for that. While it's not my favorite romcom this season (I personally think Polar Opposites is even better, as that's shaping up to be one of my all time favorite romcoms) it's definitely a show I'll recommend to anyone interested in romcoms, it's genuinely really enjoyable to me
benoxxxx2026-02-02 03:40
I don't wanna sound closed minded, but how 'shoujo' is it? I watched a mini review and thought the concept sounded fun, but although I do love romcoms I also know from experience that I quickly bounce off anything with loads of female gaze 'isn't he cute/cool?' scenes.
TheBusStop122026-02-02 04:44
I'm pretty bad at recognizing that stuff tbh, so take what I say with a grain of salt. There is a lot of "isn't he cute/cool" scenes, and I mean a lot. But they're not in the sense of she's glazing him in a romantic way, but because she's a massive fan girl and Tamon is supposed to be one of the hottest most popular young male celebs in the nation. She almost always looks at him through the lens of a fan girl who puts him on a pedestal as some sort of god. It comes over different than your standard shoujo romcom "getting flustered everytime the prince gives her a glance and roses appear in the background" kind of stuff, at least to me. It helps as well that Tamon has 2 sides, the hot one, work face (A) and the gloomy one, real face (B), and he's almost always gloomy whenever he interacts with the MC, and she doesn't see his gloomy side like that. His gloomy side is can be quite pathetic and honestly needs to see a therapist asap.
Basically, he's only glazed as cute and cool whenever he's in front of a camera or his fans, because that's his job as an idol. Outside of that he's portrayed as a nervous anxiety wrought wreck who can't even clean his own apartment and makes you wonder how he's managed to stay alive until now. Tho on occasion he does try to stand up, but it's rare.
benoxxxx2026-02-02 04:58
Okay, I could work with that. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
Sgt_General2026-02-02 04:44
Agreed with you about *Polar Opposites* being the best romcom this season - that show just gets so much right about high school dating vibes. No one has their act together, everyone is dorky and goofy, and they're doing their best to make things work.
As for Tamon, I keep describing him as: imagine Bocchi from *Bocchi the Rock* won a talent competition and got launched to superstardom with a band of total strangers without working on any of her crippling issues. That's Tamon in a nutshell!
What I really like about it is how multifaceted the main pairing are. You have Tamon, who can put on a performance as this totally suave womaniser in front of the cameras, but in his private life he's plagued by anxiety, wracked with self-loathing, and has major self-esteem issues so he has to work hard to try and plan out what his public-facing persona would do during unscripted moments.
Then there's Utage, who's a very practical and caring part-time housekeeper when she's not at school, and she only has that job because she needs it to pay for her idol otaku lifestyle. One moment, she's supporting Tamon as his employee; the next, she's ready to kick his ass for daring to say bad things about her precious oshi - even though he's talking about himself! (Not that she gets violent with him, but she does get ready to throw down with *other people*.)
LimLovesDonuts2026-02-02 03:25
Because it's funny and heartfelt. Plus...imagine if Bocchi was forced to be in front of camera and sing to her fans but genders are swapped. It's a funny setup and with top tier production values.
Kracko6672026-02-02 11:26
Imo the comparison doesn't work.
Bocchi starts from scratch and has to work hard to get accomplished as an artist or even to be functional at all.
Tamon may feel similar issues but the story starts when he is already accomplished as an artist and he is also used to getting on stages even if it's still hard for him.
LimLovesDonuts2026-02-02 11:31
The comparison works for most people on a surface level and that's enough. They aren't literally going to have the same plot points, just similar enough for people to know what to expect.
Kracko6672026-02-02 11:35
Even on surface level, the most surface level thing about Tamon is that he has 2 completely distinct sides.
I'm nitpicking but it's because i don't think it's a good argument to convince someone to watch it
LimLovesDonuts2026-02-02 11:37
That's cool. People are free to do what they want.
LabmemLily2026-02-02 03:30
Manga fan here - Rare shoujo anime with actually good production values and a rare male idol anime. Comedy is great and paired nicely with visuals, main ship is developing slowly but has cute interactions, songs are really good, and gap moe hits hard.
wloff2026-02-02 07:52
It was the last show I gave a shot this season and caught me totally off guard. It's just unexpectedly *hilarious*, like, the funniest comedy anime I've seen in a while. The main character is also pretty great, she has a lot more spunk and personality than you'd expect of your typical shoujo romance lead.
I wouldn't call it the #2 show of the entire season, but it is very good.
supermycro2026-02-02 01:05
Frieren isn't even in the meat of the Season 2 story yet and its topping AT rankings. Feel like Journal With Witch will steadily rise too as more people discover it.
Sentryion2026-02-02 02:09
Idk if there is even the meat part of season 2. Most episodes will be like this and there will be a mini quest at the very end.
We aren't getting el doraldo this season.

TheExiledLord2026-02-02 02:50
? That’s way after.
supermycro2026-02-02 02:38
Wow TIL season 2 is short and won't even get to El Dorado welp I'll enjoy what we get
Trs8222026-02-02 02:57
They’re likely saving it for its own season instead of squeezing it into the second half of S2. I hope they don’t make it a movie. I haven’t read the manga but I’ve heard hype around it
clodsirite2026-02-02 05:10
el dorado is phenomenal and honestly it only gets better from there
TheFeeed2026-02-02 08:18
I actually hope its a movie.
I know that will take a lot more time to release but its worth it considering how good the material is.
amd_hunt2026-02-02 09:14
I keep seeing people ask for this; this is a terrible idea, the movie would be over four hours long at the rate Frieren covers chapters (~2 chapters per episode; 28 chapters to cover) which is completely impossible for an animated movie, so it would either have to be two movies or they would have to cut out a massive amount of content. Because of this, they also would not have the screentime to expand on manga scenes like they’ve been doing, so you won’t get that either. It’s just a bad idea.
Cyd_arts2026-02-02 01:28
I love that tamon is giving us an album of songs! Rain made me tear up (meanwhile utage ascending to heaven made me tear up from laughter)
melindypants2026-02-02 12:27
*Tamon will always be the center of our hearts*
BlankHeroineFluff2026-02-02 01:31
Tamon W! Glad it's still going strong!
International-Bed8052026-02-02 01:33
Is the author still posting? I heard he kind of bailed on the manga
Fools_Requiem2026-02-02 03:13
Is this a bot post?
International-Bed8052026-02-02 03:29
Nah I was talking about the author for frerien
Fools_Requiem2026-02-02 03:56
Post history and random vague question kinda suggested otherwise.
In that case, a volume was just released a month and a half ago in Japan. So, it's unlikely that they're not making anymore unless they literally just stopped.
gremlinclr2026-02-02 04:11
It's currently on hiatus due to the health of one or both of the creators. Unknown when it'll come back but they already did a 7 month hiatus last year. Whatever is going on with them it can't be good.
Fools_Requiem2026-02-02 04:24
Damn. Hope it's not an issue that ends up with this series never being finished and/or the death of the author.
Icy-ding11122026-02-02 01:35
Journal with Witch, Polar Opp, and of course Frieren are my faves rn
Princessitty2026-02-02 01:36
tamon’s b-side, in the clear moonlit dusk, and journal with witch — 3 shoujosei anime in the top 10!!! the shoujosei fandom has been starved for so long and now we’re finally getting served 😭💗
Ordinary-You81022026-02-02 01:59
Bro these people are sleeping on Hells paradise
Ok-Cod52542026-02-02 04:35
It's a competitive season
Ordinary-You81022026-02-02 09:35
Hells paradise >>>>
IndividualAnywhere622026-02-02 10:32
Not really
Galactus17012026-02-02 01:59
My Queen is back where she belongs, but I am glad that the other shows that I’m watching are also doing well: You and I are Polar Opposites, Tamon’s B-Side and In the Clear Moonlit Dusk.
Frontier2462026-02-02 02:02
FRIEREN AND TAMON DOMINATION!
Jujutsu and Oshi no Ko doing amazing as befitting amazing episodes!
Keep it up, Polar Opposites and Sentenced to be a Hero.
Ganbare Hell’s Paradise and Fate!
Welcome In the Clear Moonlit Dusk and Journal with Witch!
ebonyphoenix2026-02-02 02:36
Happy to see how well *Tamon’s B-side* is doing. And thrilled that *In The Clear Moonlit Dusk* is showing up on at least one chart.
TheBusStop122026-02-02 05:13
Should I give "In the clear moonlit dusk" a shot? On the face of it it looks kinda generic to me, hence I've been passing on it for now. Does it have anything else going for it besides "highschool romance" like for example Tamon's B Side has the idol stuff and Dress Up Darling has the cosplay. Or is it just really damn well written as to be captivating despite just on the face of it being a generic highschool romance, like Polar Opposites or Danger's in my Heart?
Yesshua2026-02-02 06:28
I watched the first episode and thought it was absolutely generic. No interesting characters outside the main couple, no spark in the meet cute, no crossover interest like cosplay.
It'll get the job done for people who just want high school romance injected into their veins, but there wasn't anything else there.
Throwaway7853202026-02-02 07:19
I feel the same yet still enjoy the show.
Maybw it's cause polar opposites comes out just a bit after the show finishes so I don't mind it
melindypants2026-02-02 12:24
I absolutely LOVE shoujo romances but this one really does feel so generic to me (I also really like the previous works of the mangaka). Granted it's only been 4 episodes, but so far this is doing nothing for me. I'm actually not a fan of the FL either. It's an okay watch but nothing ground-breaking - watch it if you have the time I'd say.
Fools_Requiem2026-02-02 03:13
Suzuki staying strong at #5.
IceAnt5732026-02-02 03:51
Anime Trending voters are cooking. *Tamon's B-Side* still in 2nd and now *Journal with Witch* in Top 10. I wasn't expecting at all that *In the Clear Moonlit Dusk* would hit Top 10 though. The [Extended Rankings](https://www.anitrendz.com/charts/top-anime/2026-02-01) even show *Hana-Kimi* at 13th.
A shame *SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table* fell out of Top 10. *【Oshi no Ko】S3* is now in the Top 5 which is where I thought it would be at the start of the season and *Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End S2* is building up that 1st Place streak.
Ok-Cod52542026-02-02 04:37

Glad Journal with Witch finally made it on here
Apart_Tell_49342026-02-02 04:44
I really feel like JJK anime has goat potential
GoodGuyThoughttss2026-02-02 05:53
I think anime "fans" aren't giving its due because it's anime fans and they rather hype waifus and be contrarian. That said I'm a anime/manga vet of 25+ years. I am telling you— JJK is pushing the industry forward in a way that most on this list can not. Don't get me wrong I enjoy Frieren but it's not raising the bar on animation, production, adaptations, or taking risk with storytelling/artwork. If this continues JJk will deserve a spot in top 10 if not has already secured it.
Cavalish2026-02-02 08:58
Frieren is absolutely taking risks on story telling. Very few fantasy anime are as slow and thoughtful, as most go for huge bombastic quests, fights, and ever twisting stories.
Giving us characters capable of those things but spending a majority of time on the quiet journeys between and the relationships between its characters is what makes it stand out in a field of power-scaling, overpowered, villain of the week fantasy anime that flood the market.
Icy-Organization-9012026-02-02 06:24
Considering what had already become in the manga. No
ShallSillaSensei2026-02-02 07:54
wth is tamon b side lol
Darknchizmatters2026-02-02 08:25
what's with the hype in frieren? Is it that good??
Time_Fracture2026-02-02 09:41
As with last week, **Tamon's B-Side** stays strong.
Congrats to **Moonlit Dusk** for reaching the top 10! But in return, Shiboyugi dropped out of top 10 and now in 14th.
If you wonder where is **Medalist**, it's at 15th.
melindypants2026-02-02 12:29
Medalist should be in the top 10 atleast - I nearly cried when it came back. My body is ready for this season, but my heart isn't
Spectra82026-02-02 10:34
Glad Fate is in this list. Gnosia is criminally slept upon
Ahikikoken2026-02-02 13:00
Ohhhh Tamon looks interestinggg, this is a very surprising list!
