How many seasons does Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya have exactly?

At first thought it was two seasons. However, according to research, seasons 2 is a rebroadcast of season 1 with some new episodes mixed in. And there seem some original net animations of less than ten minutes also exist. What are the exact numner of episodes?

Deserves more worth watching

*Technically*, it has 2 seasons, a movie, and 2 spin-off series. The original broadcast of S1 back in 2006 aired the episodes in a weird non-chronological order, then the re-broadcast in 2009 put all of the episodes in chronological order, which included S1 and S2 episodes mixed together. People still debate to this day whether you should watch the series in original broadcast order (which would be S1 as it aired in 2006 and then the remaining episodes in the order they aired in 2009) or chronological order (which would be the order from the 2009 broadcast, with S1 and S2 episodes mixed together). I prefer chronological order myself, but in the end, it's up to you.

Either way, no matter which order you watch the TV anime in, the movie comes after you finish the TV anime. There's also the Yuki Nagato spin-off series, but it's not really connected to the main series (and it's also not very good) so watch it after the movie if you *really* want more of the characters, especially if you thought Yuki was best girl in the main series.

**EDIT:** Some small corrections, plus I forgot about the Nyoron Churuya-San chibi shorts. You can watch those after finishing the movie as well, if you want.

2 seasons. 28 episodes total.

The 2006 season has 14 episodes, and the 2009 season is the rebroadcast with new episodes mixed in
